Exemption permits that have been issued for sole source of heat for garages and workshops do not meet the intent of the ordinance due to "sole source of heaY" being intended for residential heat. There aze two methods in which an exemption permit may be issued: An exemption to operate solid-fuel devices onhigh pollution days issued under the following circumstances and upon submission of an application demonstrating eligibility: (1)a. So1e source of heat. Any person who relies on a solid-fuel-buming device installed prior to the effective date of this article as their sole source of heat shall be eligible for an exemption hereunder. Any person applying for such an exemprion must sign a swom statement that they rely on a solid-fuel-buming device installed prior to the effective date of this article as their sole source of residenrial heat. (1)b. Approved or exempt solid fuel-burning devices. Any person who operates an approved or exempt solid-fuel-buming device shall be eligible for an exemption from the prohibition or operation contained in subparae aph (1)a. of this definition. Persons entitled to an exemprion under this article shall be issued an exemption permit which must be displayed on the premises to which the exemption applies and be visible from a place ofpublic access on high pollution days. Please find attached a copy ofthe entire article in which it states what approved or exempt solid-fuel- burning devices aze allowed. Ifyou feel you are eligible for an exemption permit for an "approved solid fuel burning device" as defined in the attached, provide documentation from the manufacturer related to the device for review by the Building Deparhnent and request an inspection of the device as stated in Section 9-41.1 of the attached article.
