DISCUSSION
The existing main level floor joists is a 2x8 member with a seven and one-half inch depth. A
three and one-half inch diameter hole has been cut three feet three inches from the support point.
We have checked this hole cut and have found it to be satisfactory for this situation.

Engineer letter addressing the new foundation wall openings for the proposed modifications to
the single family residence at 6580 West 32nd Avenue in Wheat Ridge, CO.
DISCUSSION
The existing main level exterior walls consist of 2x4 stud wood framing and four inch brick
veneer. The west and east walls have roof load from the hip roof. The existing main level floor
is framed with 2x8 floor joists. The existing concrete foundation walls are supported on concrete
footings. The new escape window in the west wall about six feet from the south wall and the
new door in the east wall are to have the head of the windows cut at six feet nine and one-half
inches from the existing floor slab. This should leave approximately six inches of concrete over
the new openings. The sawcutting contractor shall take precautions to not go above this line
when making the vertical cuts. The existing rim joist is capable of carrying the existing frame
wall and roof load for the proposed opening widths. If the remaining concrete over the new
openings is damaged or accidentally cut, then new 4x4x1 /4 angles with four inches of bearing
under each end shall be installed to carry the brick veneer load.

Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis. This laboratory is currently proficient in both Proficiency Testing and PAT
programs respectively.

As requested, a site visit was performed on March 13, 2017 at the above address to observe existing structural
components for a main level remodel. The residence is a ranch style frame structure w/ brick veneer over a basement
constructed in 1954. For the purpose of this report, the structure faces north.
The kitchen and living room occupy an area in the southeast portion the main level. The attic and hip -style roof
above the area is constructed with rafters and ceiling joists extending east to west with several rafters extending to the
south wall beneath the hip roof.
The proposed remodel is to remove the south exterior wall and replace it with a 10 -foot wide door. A new 12 -
foot long beam is proposed to extend to the corners to support the roof in place of the wall.
Structural analysis was performed on the proposed new beam utilizing the required loads from the 2012
International Residential Code in accordance with the Wheat Ridge Building Department. The new beam to span the 10 -
foot opening should be 2-1.75x5.5" 1.9E LVL's. The beam should be supported by a 2-2x4 or a 4x4 #2 DF wood post on
each side of the opening and at the ends. The posts should be secured to the beam with Simpson EPCZ or equivalent
suitable rigid connectors. The columns should be supported on the existing foundation. The new beam may be installed
below the ceiling joists with the rafters attached to the beam as needed with Simpson 2.5A Hurricane Ties. Temporary
supports may be required during installation. Repairs and/or reinforcement of the existing framing may be required.
In our opinion, the new roof support beam and underlying foundation are 04 bali to support the 30 psf roof
snow and 105 mph 3 -second gust wind loads in accordance with the 2012 IRC as required by the Wheat Ridge Building
