I need your assistauce regarding a very serious water damage problem that occurred after a ie-
roofing and supposed `passing for code' final inspection of my roof from the Wheat Ridge
inspectors. Please send someone out ASAP to validate the belaw so that I can get this fixed
before more damage is done. The start date is this Friday, May 9, 2003.

In October 2001, I contracted with Vince Byerly of Able Roofing to shingle my raof for a cost of
about -$5400. T'fie goal was to fix my #ar & gravel roof that had aboux 5 small leaks that were
no longer responding to tar repairs. He pulled a pexmit from Wheat Ridge Plauuing as required.
Due to a concern mida+vay, I phoned your inspectors Came out to check over the job about one-
third of tbe way into it. The inspector assured me tliat putting shingles onto my 2-12 piteh roof
was acceptable.
Since then, there have been iremendous water problems with the new roof. I have had about 5
companies come ouY to provide me with new roof estimates and assess what went wrong. Here
is a list of three of the biggest problems they have identified:
1. Flashing around the skyfight is improperly instalIed.
2. Flashing around the chimney is inadequate
3. There are 2 places on the roof where the shingles raise up because they are layered
over then electrical conduits. These azeas have caused water-pooling azeas.
Consequently the following has happened.
1. Water collects in pools by the valleys or dips in the roof created at Yhe conduits where
the shingles aze overlapped. With the rain and snow of recent months, literally 30
galloons of water have poured ttxrough my roof. Buckets & tarps are everywhere. I
was unable to save the wooden floors & ceiling which will cost according to first
estimates about $3,500-$5,000 to repair.
2. There aze multiple water leaks around the chtmney and skylight. '£here have been
about 30 different leak spots.
3. I now need to re-roof again, wluch will cost about $12,000.
Please respond to the following.
1. I would like to know haw this roofpassed the final inspection,
2. I would like a copy of the final inspection to verify that inspection Was done and any
notations or observations that were made at that time as this is public record. (This

him, as he no longer conducts business in CO.)
I would like to request that my building perinit issued to D& D roofing for my next
roof to be at `no charge' to me because now tlris entire event has become costly.

After talking to five roofers and having personally experic:nced the tremendous water
damage, I think is quite obvious that this all could have been avoided if the inspectors had
£ailed the roof as I suspect it should not have passed inspectian. I could have re-couped my
iniYial money or your inspectors could have required that the roof be fixed adequately
preventixxg the water damage.
