Subject: Asbestos Sampling Results — 5900 W. 34th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO
Dear Victor:
On October 24, 2019, an Industrial Hygienist with Earth Energy Environment (E3) performed an
inspection and asbestos sampling in the private residence located at 5900 W. 34th Ave., Wheat
Ridge, CO. E3 was retained by the property owner to determine if living room popcorn ceilings
and HVAC duct wrap contain asbestos. No other materials were sampled.
SURVEY METHODOLOGY
An industrial hygienist from E3 conducted the sampling. Materials were grouped into
homogeneous sampling areas based on the material type. Among the interior building materials,
two (2) distinct homogeneous areas were identified and sampled. No other building materials were
sampled. The HAs are summarized as follows:
• HA -1 HVAC Duct Wrap
• HA -2 Living Room Popcorn Ceilings
Homogeneous Material Classifications
■ A preliminary walk through of the area was conducted to determine areas of materials
which were visually similar in color, texture, general appearance, and which appeared to
have been installed at the same time. Such materials have been termed "homogeneous
materials" by the EPA. During this walk through, the approximate locations of these
homogeneous materials were noted.
■ Following the EPA inspection protocol, each identified suspect homogeneous material was
placed in one of the following EPA classifications:
o Surfacing Materials - Sprayed or troweled on surfaces (walls, ceilings,
structural members) for acoustical, decorative, or fireproofing purposes.
This includes plaster and fireproofing insulation.

o Miscellaneous Materials - Other non -friable products and materials such
as floor tile and ceiling tile.
o Thermal System Insulation - Insulation used to inhibit heat transfer or
prevent condensation on pipes, boilers, tanks, ducts, and various other
components of hot and cold water systems and heating, ventilation, and air
conditioning (VAC.) systems. This includes pipe lagging, pipe wrap, block,
batt, blanket insulation, cements, muds, gaskets and ropes. (These materials
were not sampled as part of the survey.)
Friability Classifications
Friable and non -friable ACM's are defined as follows:
■ Friable asbestos -containing material: any material containing more than 1% asbestos,
determined using PLM analysis, that when dry, can be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to
powder by hand pressure.
■ Category I nonfriable asbestos -containing material: asbestos -containing resilient floor
covering, mastic or asphalt roofing product containing more than 1% asbestos as
determined using PLM.
■ Category II nonfriable asbestos -containing material: any material, excluding Category
I non -friable ACM, containing more than I % asbestos as determined using PLM that, when
dry, cannot be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by hand pressure.
■ Regulated asbestos -containing material (RACM): (1) friable ACM, (2) Category I
nonfriable ACM That has become friable, (3) Category I nonfriable ACM that will be or
has been subjected to sanding, grinding, cutting, or abrading, or (4) Category II nonfriable
ACM that has a high probability of becoming or has become crumbled, pulverized, or
reduced to powder by the forces expected to act on the materials in the course of demolition
or renovation operations.
Sampling_ and Laboratory Analysis
Bulk samples were collected by using various sampling tools (cutting tools, knives and chisels) to
cut away or scrape portions of suspect building materials into zip -sealed plastic bags or sampling
tubes. The individual samples were labeled by material type and location. Samples were analyzed
by Reservoirs Environmental Laboratory located in Denver, CO. The laboratory maintains
accreditations through the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), and National
Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). The analysis performed was EPA
Method 600/R-93/116.

INSPECTION RESULTS
E3 collected at least the minimum number of samples from each homogeneous area necessary to
meet all regulatory requirements for the quantity of material to be disturbed. Table 1 provides a
summary of the homogenous areas and sampling results. The complete laboratory report is
provided in Attachment A.

The laboratory separated and analyzed individual layers within each sample, if present. According
to the laboratory analysis of the materials sampled, asbestos was detected in the HVAC Pine
Wrap. No other asbestos containing materials were identified in the samples collected.
Any other potential asbestos containing materials identified in the future or during demolition that
were not sampled in this, or any other previous survey, should be tested for asbestos content or
assumed to contain asbestos before being disturbed.

inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) requires an approved inspection
prior to installation of ANY roof coverings and is require on the entire roof when spaced
or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding k/2 -inch exists. Asphalt shingles are required to
be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield is
required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturera€rms installation
instructions, whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of
elastomeric or similar type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the
manufacturer's technical representative stating that "the application of the roof at
(project address) has been applied in accordance with the installation instruction for
(roof material brand name) roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final

(2) This permit shall expire if (A) the work authonzed is not commencetl wifhin sixty (60) days from issue date or (B) the building aufhorized is suspended or
abandoned for a period of 120 days.
(3) If ihis pertnit expires, a new permit may be acquired for a fee of one-half the amount normally required, provided no changes have been or will be made in [he
original plans antl specifica6ons and any suspension or abantlonment has not exceeded one (1) year. If changes are made or if suspension or abandonment
exceeds one (t) year, full fees shall be paid for a new permit.
(4) No work of any manner shall be done thatwill change the natural flow of water causing a dreinage problem.
(5) Contractor shall notify the Building Inspec[or hventy-four (24) hours in atlvance forall inspections and shall receive written approval on inspection card before
proceediin9 with successive phases of Ne job.
(6) The issuance of a permit or the approval of drawings antl specifications shall not be consW ed to be a permit for, nor an approval of, any violation of the provisions
of }ie byqding codes or any other ordinance, law, rule or regula6on.
