Two existing openings are to be enlarged to 6'-1 " wide in the east wall of the main floor. We find that 2 - 2 x 8's may be used for new headers. They can bear on a single 2 x 4 stud ateach end of the opening. If desired, the 2 - 2 x 8's can be supported by a Simpson HUS 28-2C face-mount hanger with flanges turned in (concealed). The hanger can be nailed to the side of 2 2 x.4 studs. There should be 2 - 2 x 4 studs full height each side of each window for wind load, and 2 - 2 x 4 horizontally at the sill. All members should be securely nailed or screwed together. The other window modifications proposed did not require any changes to the existing structure. This design is based on 30-psf snow load and wind load of 110-MPH Exposure B. Do not hesitate to call should there be any questions, or if existing conditions differ from those assumed.
