REGARDING ROOF VENTILATION: Roof ventilation shall comply with IBC Sec. 1203.2 or IRC Sec. R806. The installation of ridge venting requires the installation or existence of soffit venting. For calculation purposes, one hat or turtle vent equal to one-half of one square foot of opening. Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be complete and 25-75 percent of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are required to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions, whichever is more stringent. It is also a bowi of green apples, a scented candie and incense, and great books to browse. - CH&L: How do you like to use flowers? Wolf: Flowers make a space seem sud- deniy fresh and ciean. I love yellow flowers-they bring a sense of sunshine to a room. But when in doubt, white is always a good choice. I like a bouquet to be made of just one type and color of flower-I don't mix. It makes more of an impact on a room if the flowers are in dense and profuse bunches, with a fra- grance that enguifs you. The fact that flowers are ephemeral is part of their beauty, so I would never use silk or dried flowers. "IVhite is the most interesting color, or non-color, there is. " CH&L: What kind of design do you dis- like? What do you shy away /rom? Wolf: I hate formula rooms that don't pass the test of time. They hit big and then just fade away. Also, when things get a little too precious or rigid, it makes me uncomfortable. I am not about per- fection and don't iike rooms that are. CH&L: What kind of design do you love? Wolf: Inventive design. I want to walk into a room and think to myself, "Wow, how did they ever think of that? I'm a modernist, but i love 18th-century Italian design, 1940s French and 1950s Italian. We're living in the most exciting time, as we have the freedom to travel and to pick andchoose from different cultures and eras. CH&L: You are known for your penchant for paring down, for neutrafs and fhe pure geometry within the roams you de- srgn. What other design elements are paRicWar favorites of yours? Wolf: I very much like the dialogue be- tween modern elements and antiques. Palettes that are simple but- luxurious, with bold geometric punches. When you say neutrals I have to say that the con- cept of neutrals has changed. When de- signers used to do a neutral room back in the 1970s, everything had to be the same beige. Now a neutrai room can run the gamut from off-white to dark cement.
