Midroof & Final Roof inspections for ROOFS 6/12 PITCH & OVER: 3rd party inspection will be
required for both the midroof and final inspections. The 3rd party inspection report AND
THE ORIGINAL PERMIT CARD needs to be dropped off to the Permit Desk at the City of Wheat
Ridge. The report MUST BE SIGNED by the Homeowner.
REGARDING ROOF VENTILATION: Roof ventilation shall comply with IBC Sec. 1203.2 or IRC Sec.
R806. The installation of ridge venting requires the installation or existence of soffit
venting. For calculation purposes, one hat or turtle vent equal to one-half of one square
foot of opening.
Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof
when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and
mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be
complete and 25-75 percent of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are required
to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield
is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar
type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical
representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project address) has been
applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof material brand name) roof
covering" is required to be on site at the time of final inspection.

Residential Roofing Permit Application
This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received and due to the volume of requests, time to process
varies and is subject to change. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR
PERMIT IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE
AND TIME WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if
your contractor's license or insurance has expired, and you may update those
documents at the time you are issued your permit.
For all other requests:
Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in person
at City Hall. Revisions to existing permits (for example, to add redecking) must be
completed in person at City Hall. All other non -roofing permits must be completed in
person at City Hall. The Building Division will be open from 7:30-10:30 a.m.,
Monday through Friday to process these types of requests.

VENTING REQUIREMENTS:
Use only Mendota specified vents and vent caps when installing your fireplace insert. All vent pipe sections must be
tight and leak proof.
HEATING PERFORMANCE
The Mendota D-40 Fireplace Insert is a true, high efficiency gas beater. With a heat output of 32,000 BTUH, the Mendota
Insert will usually heat a large a= of your home if situated to maximize heat circulation. NOTE: The Mendota Insert is

I . Remove glass doors, metal fire screens, etc. from existing fireplace. Be sure there is 12" minimum
distance from top of upper grill to bottom of mantel; see Specifications [PgA & 51, and a 16"
mum non-combustible hearth extension in front of the glass surface if a raised hearth is not supplied.
(See pg. 14 for "Raised Hearth").
2. Remove any additional framework or other obstructions in the existing fireplace opening and bum-
ing area. Also remove any chimney cap from top of chimney so that vent liner can be installed
freely.
3. Before Insert is
• have gas supplier or contractor run gas line to the existing fireplace. Be
•Gas supply may enter fire-
place on either side or back of fireplace, whichever is most convenient and accessible. Electrical
service (120 volt)
• also be supplied [See electrical requirements on Pg3 and blower instruc-
tions
5. Open fireplace damper. If damper opening is large enough to accept 4" and 6" flue liners, pernia-
nently secure damper in "open" position. NOTE: Massachmetts requires that theflue damper mavt be
removed or permanently welded in the "open"position.
CAUTION: If 4" & 6" flue liners cannot be installed in an extremely tight chimney DLO —NOT pro-
ceed with installation. I
7. If damper opening is narrower than 4-1/2" to 5" (114 mm to 127 mm) and if local code authorities
allow, loosen and remove mortar behind back side of damper housing in the center of the opening
enough to get the gripping teeth of a pipe wrench over the flange of the damper housing (for cast
i,ron housings). Tighten the wrench snugly, and kick down on the wrench handle to break out a ha
moon shaped piece of the damper housing, enough to easily fit the flex liner through it. If the ope
ing is wide enough, the break out is not necessary.
8. Install Insert only in chimney heights of 12' (minimum) to 35' (maximum) — as measured in
step 9 below.
9. Measure the chimney height from the top of the chimney (or the existing flue liner) to a point 23"
(584 mm) above the floor of the fireplace hearth. It may • necessary to drop a rope and measure
the rope itself. Be sure to allow for all offsets in existing chimney. Cut the 4" diameter flex liner
to this measured length,

10. The D-40 Insert must be vented vertically to the outside and must use the Mendota flexible ducting system.

11. (See FIGURE 4A) The vent kits include a trimable flashing. Measure, trim andshape flashing to fit the
existing flue liner. This flashing prevents water and small animals from entering area between the chimney liner
andflueliner. Plan for I" to 1-1/2"(25 rmn to 38 mm) overlap on each side. Center the flashing and mark it
about 3" (75 mm) larger in each dimension than the existing chimney. Trim the notch with snips and bend edges
with hand seaming tool, metal break or pliers.

Photovoltaic modules are to be added to the roof Calculations were made to certify the integrity of
the carpenter trusses or rafters under maximum wind uplift load or maximum live load, and the
connections under combined maximum wind uplift load and maximum live shear load of maximum
wind uplift load,
Based on total module loads at anchor locations, or total uniform loads, the carpenter trusses or
rafters are adequate to support the small additional dead load of the modules and framing. No
analysis is made for unbalanced loads, drift loads or treating the truss top chord as a beam.
The module connections are are with 5/16'diameter x 3 1/2" long lag screws with a minimum 2"
penetration into the roof structure. The lag screws are adequate to support combined maximum wind
