Midroof & Final Roof inspections for ROOFS 6/12 PITCH & OVER: 3rd party inspection will be
required for both the midroof and final inspections. The 3rd party inspection report AND
THE ORIGINAL PERMIT CARD needs to be dropped off to the Permit Desk at the City of Wheat
Ridge. The report MUST BE SIGNED by the Homeowner.
REGARDING ROOF VENTILATION: Roof ventilation shall comply with IBC Sec. 1203.2 or IRC Sec.
R806. The installation of ridge venting requires the installation or existence of soffit
venting. For calculation purposes, one hat or turtle vent equal to one-half of one square
foot of opening.
Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof
when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and
mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be
complete and 25-75 percent of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are required
to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield
is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar
type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical
representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project address) has been
applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof material brand name) roof
covering" is required to be on site at the time of final inspection.

Residential Roofing Permit Application
This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received and due to the volume of requests, time to process
varies and is subject to change. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR
PERMIT IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE
AND TIME WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if
your contractor's license or insurance has expired, and you may update those

For all other requests:
Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in person
at City Hall. Revisions to existing permits (for example, to add redecking) must be
completed in person at City Hall. The Building Division permit counter is open from
7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday to process these types of requests.

TITLE: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 26-30(S) OF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE COOE OF
LAWS CONCERNING EXTERIOR LIGHTING STANDARDS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF TME CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO,
AS FOLLOWS:
Sec4ion 1. Chapter 26, Article I, Seetion 26-30(S) of the Wheat Ridge Code of Laws, entitled
"Exterior Lighting Standards", is hereby amended as follows:
CHAPTER 26 ZONING AND DEVELOPMENT
ARTICLE I. ZONING CODE
(S) Exterior Lighting Standards:
(1) Purpose. The purpose of this seetion is to regulate the spillover of light and glare
irom exterior lighdng on operators of motor vehicles, pedestrians and land uses in
the proximity of the light source. With respect to motor vehicles in particular,
safety considerations form the basis of the regulations contained herein. In other
cases, both the nuisance and hazard aspects of glare, reflected light and incidental
spillover light are regulated. This section is not intended to apply to public street
lighting or to pubUc outdoor parks and recreadon uses.
(2) Performance Standards:
(a) All exterior flghting shail be designed and s(tuated so that substantially all
of the directly-emitted light falls within the property boundaries.
(b) Exterior lighting shall also be designed and sltuated so that no incidental
or reilected Itght interferes with reasonable enJoyment of adjacent land
uses, nor safe movement of motor vehfcles on public streets.
(e) The tollowing ezterior Iightlng is specifically prohibited:
(1) Any light that may be confused with or construed as a traHic
control device.
(2) Any animated, flashing or changing intensity Iights, except for
temporary holiday displays.
(3) Permit Required. An electrical permit applicatlon shall be required, and a permit
issued, prior to installation or substantial modification of any exterior lighting.
Such permit application shall be accompanied by information as may be required
by the Uniform Electrical Code, and additional in(ormation that may be rrecessary
to determine potentlal negative affects upon adjacent properties and public streets
including, but not limited to, a plot plan showing locatlon and orienWtion of
lighting standards, building elevations showing location and orientation of lighting
standards, lighting sWndard specifications including height, type (i.e., cut-ott, non-
cut-off, spot flood light, etc.), peak candlepower diagrem, and any shielding
devices to be incorporated so as to minimize incidental light spillover or glare.
Section 2. Severabiliri. Ii any elause, sentenee, paragreph, or part of this Zoning Code or the

application thereof to any person or circumstances shall for any reason be adjusted by a court of
competent jurisdiction invalid, such judgment shall not affect application to other persons or
- circumstances.
Section 3. Safetv Clause. The City Council hereby ftnds, determines, and declares that this
ordinance is promulgated under the general police power of the City of Wheat Ridge, that it is
promulgated for the health, safery, and welfare of the public, and that this ordinance ls necessary
for the preservation of healtlh and safety and for the protection of public convenience and weliare.
The City Council further determines that the ordinance bears a rational relation to the proper
legislative obJect sought to be attained.
Section 4. Thls ordinance shall take eHect 15 days after final publication.
