The proposed solar panels will be flush mounted and will weigh no more titan 3 pounds per square foot (psf). It is our understanding that Solar Supply will install the PV may using a racking system manufactured by IronRidge. Our analysis is limited to the existing roof structure and does not include analysis of the racking system. The existing roof system on the residence where the proposed PV arrays will be installed consists of a single layer of asphalt shingles on a layer of sheathing supported by a variety of wood rafter systems. The rafters span between load bearing walls. Per the City of Wheat Ridge design criteria and their use of the 2018 International Residential Code, this building is in a location subject to a ground snow load of 30 psf and a three -second gust ultimate design wind speed of 135 miles per hour with an exposure C rating. Following the analytical design procedures of ASCE 7-16, the maximum nominal design wind uplift pressure is 48.5 psf within sixteen square feet of roof comers and 18.9 psf in the field. The flush mount panels will attach to the existing roof with a system of support rails. Support rails shall be installed perpendicular to the framing below and spaced at a maximum of T-0. Each rail shall be attached with (1) 5/16" diameter by 2-1/2" long GRK RSS screws spaced at T-0 along each rail. The screws shall be located within the center one-third of the framing member width. The flush mounted TV system will not introduce additional snow or wind load to the existing roof framing. Our analysis indicates that the existing roof structure has adequate capacity to support Code required loads combined with the added dead load associated with the proposed PV arrays. The PV installer is responsible for coordination of all work, surveying, inspection of existing structures, and reporting any discrepancies prior to proceeding.
