All review is based on these observations and the design criteria listed below and only deemed valid if provided information is true and accurate. On the above referenced project, the roof structural framing has been reviewed for additional loading due to the installation of the solar PV addition to the roof. The structural review only applies to the section of the roof that is directly supporting the solar PV system and its supporting elements. The observed roof framing is described below. If field conditions differ, contractor to notify engineer prior to starting construction. The roof structures of (Roof 1&2) consist of composition shingle on 1x decking that is supported by 2x6 rafters @ 24"o.c. with ceiling joists acting as rafter ties. The rafters have a max projected horizontal span of 8'-8", with a slope of 18 degrees. The rafters are connected at the ridge to a ridge board and are supported at the eave by a load bearing wall. The existing roof framing systems of (Roof 1&2) are judged to be adequate to withstand the loading imposed by the installation of the solar panels. No reinforcement is necessary. The spacing of the solar standoffs should be kept at 72" o.c. for landscape and 48" o.c. for portrait orientation, with a staggered pattern to ensure proper distribution of loads. The scope of this report is strictly limited to an evaluation of the fastener attachment, underlying framing and supporting structure only. The attachment's to the existing structure are required to be in a staggered pattern to ensure proper distribution of loading. All panels, racking and hardware shall be installed per manufacturer specifications and within specified design limitations. All waterproofing shall be provided by the manufacturer. Domus Structural Engineering assumes no responsibility for misuse or improper installation of the solar PV panels or racking. FX is a proprietary rooftop mounting system used to support framed photovoltaic (PV) modules on pitched roofs with slopes between 9.5° and 45° (roof pitch from 2:12 to 12:12.) In FX systems, Mount FX components clamp PV modules and are comprised of an aluminum support clamp, a 3/8" stainless steel leveling bolt, and an aluminum pivot arm base. Each pivot arm bears on Flash FX components and is anchored to the underlying rafter via a 5/16" stainless steel hanger bolt. Aluminum Bridge FX components are used to couple and clamp adjacent modules to each other. Assembly details of a typical FX installation and its core components are shown in Exhibit EX -0014. For slopes not listed in the span tables that do not exceed 45°, tilts shall be rounded up to the next higher 5° increment. For example, if one is designing to a roof angle of 12°, use the row for 15° in the span table. An exception is for roof angles between 25° and 27°, in which case the user shall use the results for 25°. 9. Roof supporting members shall have no sign of decay, degradation, or other existing damage that could undermine the wood member's material properties and/or performance. The nominal size of the roof rafter shall be a 2x4 or larger, with a specific gravity no less than 0.36. To meet NDS hole location requirements, the hanger bolt shall be installed in the middle 1/3 width of the rafter with a minimum end distance of 3 inches. 10. All FX components shall be installed per IronRidge's FX System Installation Manual, in particular regarding required installation torques, allowable supporting clamp maximum height, Trim FX and Bridge FX component installation, and allowable articulation angle or pattern of pivot arm base. 11. The FX system components have been certified as an integrated structural system. No 3rd party substitute parts shall be used. The parameters and adjustments allowed in the span tables are as follows: 1. The wind speed selection shall conform to ASCE 7-10 Fig. 26.5-1A (Risk Category II wind) and any state & local county/city amendments to the IBC. No special wind topographic features are included and the topographic coefficient (Kzt) is taken as 1.0. 2. The snow load used in the span tables is the ground snow and shall conform to ASCE 7-10 Fig. 7-1. If a more specific or restrictive snow load is imposed by a local building code/amendment to the IBC, such snow load requirement shall also be complied with. If the local jurisdiction specified snow load is in the format of a flat roof snow load, it shall first be converted to a ground snow following the local building code/amendment before the application of the attached span tables. 3. If the factory built fireplace* height is too low for your Insert, you may remove the smoke baffle plate, damper, refractory (firebricks), glass doors, screen rails, screen mesh and log grates from the factory built fireplace as long as these items are saved and are reinstalled in the event thatthe Insert is removed. The fireplace flue damper can be fully blocked open or removed for installation of the gas fireplace insert. Smoke shelves, shields and baffles maybe removed if attached by mechanical fasteners. If any part is removed it must not weaken the structural integrity of the factory built fireplace. The fireplace and fireplace chimney must be clean and in good working order and constructed of non- combustible materials. The surround panels should not seal ventilation openings on the fireplace. Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be complete and 25-75 percent of the mid -roof may be complete.
