M Date of Issue (dayftayr) Lopezglens Associates Consulting Structural Engineers March 10, 2016 To: City of Wheat Ridge Building Department Re: Flush -mount PV Installation on Existing Residence Engineering Project 8. S16152 3051 Union Street Wheat Ridge, CO 8021.5 Puns Examiner, This letter is to state that I made a general review of the existing roof structure in reference to supporting the paint loads from the proposed solar panel racks and supports. The roof will be subject to design loads of 30 psf ground snow load, and a wind load (V.,) of 105 mph -sec. gust, exposure C. The panels will add a dead load o A psf . The review confirms that the existing structure is adequate to support these loads, with the following assumptions. The PV panels will be located at least 1.2" away from all edges of the roof plane, and will not be more than 1.2" above the roof. PV panel mounts (UniRa L -feet, or equivalent) from the panel rails should be spaced at " maximum. Vertically -adjacent meronts should not bear on the same truss but should be staggered over every other truss (wherever possible) so that each truss under the panels supports some load. The mounts should be attached to the 2x truss top chord with 5/16" -diameter stainless steel lag screws with a minimum penetration into the center of the 2x's of " each. Each truss that supports a mount is assumed to fasten to the exterior bearing plates with a Simpson H2.5 hurricane tie, or equivalent. All other panel and rail connections are to be installed per the manufacturer's recommendations. It should be noted that only a portion of the roof structure was observed. We do not assume responsibility for any construction flaws or defects that may currently exist or are caused by the proposed installation. Sincerely, t :s Ian M. Smith, P.E.
