STONE COATED METAL ROOF SHAKE (Shake XD®)
This guide specification has been prepared by DECRA Roofing Systems, Inc., in printed and electronic
media, as an aid to specifiers in preparing written construction documents for stone coated metal roof
shakes.
Edit entire master to suit project requirements. Modify or add items as necessary. Delete items, which
are not applicable. Words and sentences within brackets r reflect a choice to be made regarding
inclusion or exclusion of a particular item or statement. This section may include performance, proprietary
and descriptive type specifications. Edit to avoid conflicting requirements. Editor notes to guide the
specifier are included between lines of asterisks to assist in choices to be made. Remove these notes
before final printing of specification.
This guide specification is written around the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), Section Format
standards references to section names and numbers are based on MasterFormat 95 [2011 update].

1.2 SUBMITTALS
Include submittal requirements below, which are consistent with the scope of the project and extent of work of this
section - only request submittals, which are necessary for review of design intent.
Do not request submittals if drawings sufficiently describe the products of this section or if proprietary specifying
techniques are used. The review of submittals increases the possibility of unintended variations to drawings.
Insert the appropriate reference to the Division 1 section.
A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300 [01 30 00].
B. Product Data: Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual
components and profiles, finishes, fasteners, accessories, and manufacturers written installation
instructions.
C. Shop Drawings: Include roof plans and elevations; sections at hips, gables, ridges, valleys, and
eaves; and details of components, accessories, and attachments to other work.
D. Samples for Initial Selection: Manufacturer's color charts and samples boards consisting of units
or sections of units showing the full range of colors, textures, and patterns available for each type
of DECRA Shake XD® indicated.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store and handle roofing materials to ensure dryness. Store in a dry, well ventilated, weather tight
place. Protect from corrosion, staining and traffic and wind damage. Store rolls of felt and other
sheet materials on end on pallets or another raised surface.
6 WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer's Warranty: Written, transferable, limited warranty signed by DECRA Roofing
Systems, Inc., covering manufacturing defects/excessive granule loss. Refer to warranty for
specifics.
1. Warranty Period: 50 years from date of Substantial Completion.
2. Wind Warranty: 120 mph winds, full warranty period.
3. Hail Penetration: full warranty period.

3. Roof- to -Wall Flashing: DECRA Roofing Systems, Inc., XD® Channel - Aluminum -Zinc Alloy
Coated Steel sheet, 0.0165 inches (.455 mm), pressure formed to flash along the hips and
ridges.
4. Screws: Minimum No. 9 hex (1/4" diameter) by 1-1/2" long (38.1 mm) minimum, corrosion
resistant, color coordinated to match the panels.

2.3 ACCESSORIES
A. Sheet Metal Materials: Aluminum -Zinc Alloy Coated Steel Sheet: ASTM A 792/A 792M, Class
AZ50 (AZ150) coating designation; minimum Grade 37 (Grade 255).
Verify requirements for ice dam protection with local building code and include [ J if required/desired.

B. Felt Underlayment: ASTM D 226, Type I, No. 15 or ASTM D 226, Type II, No. 30, non -perforated,
asphalt -saturated organic felt.
C. [Perimeter Underlayment: ASTM D 1970; self -adhering, polymer -modified, bituminous sheet
underlayment; 40 mils (1 mm) thick. Provide primer when recommended by underlayment
manufacturer.]
D. Sealant: One -part elastomeric polyurethane sealant as recommended in writing by Shake XD®
manufacturer. Where sealant will be exposed, provide in color matching roofing material.
1. Standard: ASTM C920-86.
E. Fasteners: Screws: Minimum No. 9 hex (1/4" diameter) by 1-1/2" long (38.1 mm) minimum,
corrosion resistant, black or color coordinated to match the panels where visible.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
Include the information in parenthesis [ j for re -roofing applications, and as required by code, delete if riot required.
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine substrate and conditions for compliance with requirements for maximum moisture
content, soundness of framing, and other conditions affecting performance of DECRA metal
roofing. [Damaged, rotted or loose roofing materials shall be removed and the substrate corrected
for re -roofing applications]. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have
been corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Clean substrate of any projections and substances detrimental to metal panel roofing. Cover
knotholes or other minor voids in substrate with sheet metal flashing secured with roofing nails.
B. Coordinate installation of metal panels with flashing and other adjoining work to ensure proper
sequencing. Do not install roofing until vent stacks and other penetrations through roofing have
been installed, are securely fastened and flashing is in place.
C. Inspect and verify exterior stucco and EIFS wall enclosures are completed.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. General: Comply with manufacturer's written instructions for products and applications indicated,
unless more stringent requirements apply.
B. Underlayment: Apply number of plies required by governing code, but at least one ply, with each
ply overlapping ply below a minimum 6 inches (152 mm) and ends lapped at least 18 inches (457
mm).
1. [Omit felt underlayment at areas of perimeter underlayment. Lap felt underlayment over
perimeter underlayment as recommended by manufacturer, but not less than 2 inches (51
mm).]
C. [Perimeter Underlayment: Apply minimum 24 inches (609 mm) wide layer of perimeter
underlayment along entire perimeter of surface to receive metal shingles, including at eaves,
ridges, edges, hips, valleys, skylights, dormers, and around projections through roof. Extend
perimeter underlayment a minimum of 36 inches (914 mm) inside exterior wall line at edges.]
D. Valleys: Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions with a minimum 6 inch (152 mrn)
overlap in direction of flow.
E. Flashing: Install as indicated on approved submittals and in accordance with manufacturer's
written instructions.

F. Shake XD® Panels: Install DECRA Shake XD®, accessories, flashing, and hip & ridge level and
plumb. Use fasteners per above specifications.
1. Install each DECRA Shake XD° panel left to right in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions. Do not create a pattern.
2. The right side of each panel must be pushed into position to engage the Side -Lap locking
mechanism.
Specify the appropriate number of fasteners per code requirements; 5 is standard installation. Miami -Dade County may
require additional fasteners see www.decra.com.
3. Fasten each panel with minimum [5] fasteners horizontally along the back flange of each
panel at pre -punched tabs. Review manufacturer's instructions for fastener placement.
4. First course of panels positioned at eave will clip into Starter Clip with Drip Edge.
G. Cut DECRA panels into each side of valleys in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions
straight and true to the line of the valley.
H. Hip & Ridge: Install Shake Hip & Ridge along hips and ridges as indicated on approved submittals
and in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. Bend and fold exposed ends of hips
ridges and neatly cap with an end cap or a piece of similar material.
3.4 CLEANING AND PROTECTION
A. Damaged Units: Replace panels and other components of the work that have been dented
damaged or have deteriorated beyond successful repair by finish touchup with acrylic coating and
stone chip granules.
B. Cleaning: After completing installation, remove any debris from the roof.
C. Foot Traffic: Avoid walking on side laps.

Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) requires an approved inspection
prior to installation of ANY roof coverings and is require on the entire roof when spaced
or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Asphalt shingles are
required to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and
water shield is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above
the roof eave and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections.
Roof ventilation is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer
installation instructions, whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection
of elastomeric or similar type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the
manufacturer technical representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project
address) has been applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof
material brand name) roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final
inspection.
Roof inspections for ROOFS OVER 6/12 PITCH: 3rd party inspection will be required, the 3rd
party inspection report will be collected at final roof inspection performed by City of
Wheat Ridge. If report is not available the final inspection will not be completed.

By signing this Contingency Contract, you agree to authorize Storm Guard to assist you in your pursuit of a claim under your insurance policy and your efforts to reach
agreement with your insurer on project scope and price. You may cancel this contract with no penalty before midnight on the third business day after the date of your
signature below, or any time before your insurer approves your claim, whichever is later. You have -no obligation to Storm Guard under this Contract unlzss your insurer

Terms and Conditions
1. Contingencies. This Contract is contingent upon: 1. your insurance company's approval of your claim; and 2, our approval of the scope and price identified on the loss
statement you receive from your insurer. We may cancel this Contract anytime prior to the start of Work. if your insurer denies your claim, then this contract is not effective.
2. Contract Documents and Changes. This Contract consists of this Contingency Contract and any addenda, change orders, drawings, plans, or specifications. Any work resulting
from alteration or deviation from this Contract, including the replacement of deteriorated materials (e.g., decking, fascia boards, roof jackets, ventilators, flashing, etc.), hidden
damage, or any other materials not specified for replacement in this Contract, as well as any additional work required by government inspectors to make the existing structure
code compliant, requires a written change order signed by all parties and may result in extra charges beyond the Contract price, which shall be your responsibility. This Contract
embodies the entire agreement of the parties and supersedes all prior agreements and understandings. Any promises or representations not included in this Contract are
expressly denied.
3. MECHANIC'S LIEN RIGHTS. (A) ANY PERSON OR COMPANY SUPPLYING LABOR OR MATERIALS FOR THIS IMPROVEMENT TO YOUR PROPERTY MAY FILE A LIEN AGAINST YOUR
PROPERTY IF THAT PERSON OR COMPANY IS NOT PAID FOR THE CONTRIBUTIONS. (B) YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO PAY PERSONS WHO SUPPLIED LABOR OR MATERIALS FOR THIS
IMPROVEMENT DIRECTLY AND DEDUCT THIS AMOUNT FROM OUR CONTRACT PRICE, OR WITHHOLD THE AMOUNTS DUE THEM FROM US UNTIL 120 DAYS AFTER COMPLETION
OF THE IMPROVEMENT, UNLESS WE GIVE YOU A LIEN WAIVER SIGNED BY PERSONS WHO SUPPLIED ANY LABOR OR MATERIAL FOR THE IMPROVEMENT AND WHO GAVE YOU
TIMELY NOTICE.
4. Warranties. Upon our receipt of full payment for the Work, we provide the following warranties: (a) during the one-year period from and after completion of the Work, the
Work shall be free from defects caused by faulty workmanship or defective materials due to noncompliance with building standards; (b) during the five-year period from and
after completion of the Work, all products sold in connection with the Work shall be applied according to the manufacturer's written specifications. Notwithstanding any of the
above, we expressly disclaim any and all liability for loss or damage of any kind that is not reported to us in writing within six (6) months after you discover or should have
discovered the loss or damage. These warranties are given in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied. In no event shall we be liable for consequential or incidental
damages of any kind, including any damage to the building, its contents, or any persons therein.
S. Owner's Obligations and Commitments. You shag: (a) grant free access to work areas for workers and vehicles; (b) allow storage of materials and rubbish on your property;
(c) keep driveways clear and available for movement and parking of vehicles during normal working hours, including removal of ice and snow; (d) supply, electric, water, and
other utilities, including toilet facilities, or compensate us for the cost of providing them; (e) arrange for identification of underground utilities before we perform any digging; (f)
remove, protect, or secure all satellite dishes, solar panels, sky lights, and other exterior and interior personal property (e.g., shrubs, flowers, wall hangings, etc.) before the
Work begins. You shall hold us harmless from any and all damage to your personal property, including but not limited to interior fixtures, drywall, plaster wall construction, and
decorations, unless caused by our negligence. We shall not be responsible for realigning satellite dishes or solar panels. The Work may require the use of dumpsters, heavy
equipment vehicles, and construction equipment on your property. You hold us harmless from any damage to your property caused by weight or movement of such dumpsters,
vehicles, or equipment. Dumpsters are for construction debris only. You may be charged additional fees for disposing other items in our dumpsters. We shall take reasonable
efforts to remove construction debris. However, you shall hold us harmless from any damage or injury caused by debris remaining on your property after completion of the
Work. We shall not be expected to keep gates and doors closed, and you shall hold us harmless from claims arising therefrom. Excess construction material shall remain our
property.
6. Collection Costs. Unless otherwise limited by applicable law, we shall add a 1.5% monthly service fee to any outstanding balance not paid within thirty (30) days the due date.
You agree to pay all reasonable costs we may incur in order to collect amounts owing under this Contract, including reasonable attorneys' fees, cost, and disbursements. You
shall not delay final payment while waiting for final government inspection of the Work.
7. Events beyond Our Control and Exclusions. You shall hold us harmless from pre-existing conditions on the property discovered during completion of the Work. Existing out of
square and plumb conditions may require similar conditions in the Work. Some variation may occur in color, texture and planes of materials. We may substitute similar materials
if specified materials are unavailable. We do not evaluate venting and circulation systems. Performance under this Contract is contingent upon strikes, accidents, or other delays
beyond our control. The Contract price may be adjusted due to material or labor price increases caused by unforeseen problems arising after the Work has begun, market supply
shortages, or unusual spikes in market demand. The Contract price does not include any governmental permit, service, or access charge. We are not responsible for removing
hazardous material (e.g., lead paint or asbestos) from your property and may stop Work until it is removed.
B. Advertising. You authorize us to place advertising yard signs on your property for promotion and identification purposes for workers and material suppliers. You grant us an
unlimited license to record images of the Work in any form and to reproduce those images for advertising and promotional use.
9. Insurance. To the extent required by law, we maintain current insurance policies covering our general liability and workers compensation obligations. Prior to commencement
of the Work, you shall have insurance to cover the finished cost of Improvements.
10. Performance Guidtlines. We agree to complete the Work set forth in this Contract in accordance all applicable construction codes and the manufacturers' specifications for
installation of all materials.
It. Cancellation. You may cancel this contract with no penalty before midnight on the third business day after the date of your signature on the first page of this Contract, or
any time before your insurer approves your claim, whichever is later. If you cancel this Contract after your insurer approves your claim but before commencement of the Work
without legal right to do so, we shall be entitled to the actual costs we incurred in connection with the Work (including any restocking charges) plus 2S% of the Contract price,
which you agree is a fair and reasonable amount to compensate us for our reliance on the Work, and not a penalty. After commencement of the Work, you are responsible for
the entire Contract price.
