The existing roof framing consists of 2x6 rafters at 24" o.c. where the solar panels will be located. The existing roofing material consists of asphalt shingles. I have evaluated the existing roof framing using RISA finite element analysis software. The following loads were used in the analysis of the roof framing: Dead load 12.0 psf Solar panels 3.0 psf Snow load 30.0 psf It was found that the existing roof framing has adequate capacity to support the additional weight of the solar panels. It is my recommendation that the roof framing will safely and adequately support the solar panels. The roof attachments should be staggered such that the mounting hardware can be attached to each truss at 24" o.c. in order for the loads to be evenly distributed along the trusses. The racking should be installed per the manufacturer's specifications directly to the truss top chord. The attachments consist of 5/16" or 18/8 ss lag screws with 2" minimum penetration into the truss top chord.
