fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield is
required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar
type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical

This application is exclusively for new RESIDENTIAL roofing permits and for
licensed contractors only. Permits are processed and issued in the order they are
received. You will be notified if your contractor's license or insurance has
expired. The license and insurance must be current before the permit will be
processed.
For all other requests:
Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in
person at City Hall. Revisions to existing permits (for example, to add
redecking) must be completed in person at City Hall. The Building Division
permit counter is open from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday to
process these types of requests.

REGARDING ROOF VENTILATION: Roof ventilation shall comply with IBC Sec. 1203.2 or IRC Sec.
8806. The installation of ridge venting requires the installation or existence of soffit
venting. For calculation purposes, one hat or turtle vent equal to one-half of one square
foot of opening.
Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75% of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof
when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and
mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be
complete and 25-75% of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are required to be
fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield is
required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar

At your 'requdst,' T'ma~de an' engiaeerin6 inspection 'of the house at
the above locationi' The purpoee of this inspection''was to
determine the present 'etructural condition of the'east sind west
foundation wails of the house and to make recommendationa as maY be
required. This reaidence ia a brick venaer and frama, one (1)
story style of houee with a full basement, and with an attached two
(Z) car garage.
The basement area isimoatly finiehed and the east and Hest concrete
foundation walls ere mostly concealed. There are 'minor to one-
sixteenth inch (1/16") wide cracke in the e=posad areas of the
foundation. Both walls have experienced inward lateral movemene of
appro:imately one and one-half inches (1 1/2") where they could ba
measured. The east wall should have two (2) counterfortventelany
to hold it at ite present location and to help pre
additionel inward rwvement of the wall. These
be inatalled at about the one-third (1/3) points
practical around the hot water beseboard heat. If thie wall is
found to have exceasive cracking once the paneling is removad a
eister wall may have to also be inetalled to hold the wall
together. The weet well ehould have a counterfort installed
directly behind the hot water heater, which will have to be moved
east to accommodate the counterfort.
The ezterior grade, or ground eurface, adjacent to the foundatioa
walls has' low areas around the house that tend to trap and hold
water aear the foundation. This water could eaeily penatrate the
poroue backfill soil• and reach the eoil under the basement floor
slab and around the foundation syetem and could result in damaBe.

In order to' help prevent the intrusion of water, one should have
these low areas filled in with soil to provide a minimum slope of
eix inches (0) in the first eix feet (6') out from the houae to
provide for eood drainage. Anv future decorative gravel or bark
areae ahould be installed in a manner similar to the enclosed
detail to allow for improved drainage away from the house. We do
not recommend any sprinkler heads or lines within five feet (5') of
the foundation walle, or ones that spray onto the backfill area.
One should provide metal gutter extensions, a minimum of five feet
(5') long, under and attached to all roof downspouts to prevent the
ponding of water near the foundation.
If you agree with theae repaire and wish to have a letter stating
that thay were completed in an acceptable manner, our office will
have to inspect the exposed east wall, footinga before they are
poured and the steel in the counterforta.before they are poured.
An approximate coet of future inepections and completed repair
report would be $195.00. The owner should be advised to always
provide adequate slope for positive drainage away from the house
and off of the aite. If I may be of additional service, please
call.
