I am writing to request that you install a handrail along the west side of your sidewalk that is
located between W. 391" Avenue and the King Soopers pazking lot. Several elderly residents of
the condominiums on Ames Street have asked the city to install the handrail thinking that the
sidewaik is within city right-of-way. Since the sidewalk is on your property I am writing this
letter for the residents who live in that area.
They have told me that even though your maintenance people do a good job of clearing snow and
putting salt on the sidewalk in the winter, it is still very dangerous for them in the winter. Even
in the summer they have had near falling accidents and h_ ave (ost their grocery Lart.sdown the__
sides of the sidewalk because the ground slopes steeply qff$p ttI §ides.lWy have had the
wheels of the cart go off of the sidewalk and then the cart rolls ryver. I~ 1'ave looked at the
sidewalk and think that without a handrail it is not very safe because of the fairly steep grade azid
the fact that if you step off either side of the sidewalk you could roll down a steep slope.
Installation of a handrail on the west side of the sidewalk would make the residents very happy
and would be very inexpensive. I hope that a8er you look at the sidewalk you will agree that
construction of the handrail is warranted as a safety measure for the public. If you have any
