RE: Jim Burke Residence

Wheat Ridge, CO 80033
Dear Chad,
Attached is an engineers letter in regards to the installation of one-piece fiberglass pools
for expansive soils. I've also included some other data in reference to this situafion. I'm
hoping that this iMormation will suifice in place of an engineer's report, which becomes
very oosUy to our client. We try to keep costs down the best we can to make these pools
affordable, which keeps us and our wortcers employed
Some background informafion; fiberglass pools have the ability to flex, making them the
best choice for Colorado's expansive soils. Hundreds of San Juan fiberglass pools have
been installed Colorado, including many in Wheat Ridge, since 1968. There used to be
a San Juan manufacturing plant in Green Mountain, later moving to Arvada, but that
dissolved around 1992.
San Juan Manufacturing is now located in Eloy, AZ and Lakeland, FL.. Dan Hersman,
president of our company, has been installing San Juan pools since 1978. He was the
manufacturing foreman for San Juan when it was domiciled here, urrtil he struck it out on
his own in 1990. He has been installing pools since 1978, and oversees every
installation personally. His expertise in various soits and installation procedures has
made this company successful.
If further information is needed, please feel free ta contact me at the Boulder office.
Best Regards,

We understand there is concern about placing this poo n expansive soil co ditions. 5an
Juan Pools takes precautions by over excavating 4" to 6" on the floor and 9 B' on the
sides and back filling with sand. This procedure, along with the ability of their fiberglass
poof shelis to flex reduces potential mavement of the pool in expansive soils. Also, the
pool water overburdens the expansive soils and reduces movement fram swelling soils.
Please call with any comments and questions.

The design that unleashed
a new era in whisper-quiet
operation
The right pump should circulate all pool water at least
once a day...as efficiently as possible. Greater efficiency
means lower utility costs...and the key lies in the heart
of the pump's design. The secret is to minimize friction
and turbulence. Less friction means greater efficiency.
Less turbulence means less noise.
That's why all Pentair pumps feature a proprietary
hydraulic design that's been refined over 40 years for
superior performance. In fact, xhey are so efficient they
often deliver the required flow and pressure using
$t8nd8rd featureS inClUde: smaller horsepower motors-which cost less to run. No
o Lower operating costs. Less horsepower required to produce
needed water flow, even when used in pool/spa combinations
and when operating in-floor cleaning systems.
• Whisper-quiet operation documented in rigorous ETL tests.
o Patented oversized strainer basket reduces cleaning frequency.
o Easy-view lid design for instant inspection will remain clear and
strong for years. Plus, the clamp delivers even pressure to
eliminate air and water leaks.
wonder more than 2 million Pentair pumps have been
selected by pool professionals.
WhisperFlo's innovaxive hydraulic design moves water
more efficiently and more quietly than competitive
pumps. Under typical operating conditions,WhisperFlo
offers the greatest water Flow of any high performance
pump-yet with the lowest electrical consumption.
WhisperFlo is engineered to provide optimum performance
in a complete range of installations, including pool/spa
combinations. It also delivers the power needed for
suction-side, pressure-side, and in-floor cleaning systems.
Simply the most efficient and
quietest pump you can buy
Maximum circulation efficiency a[ the lowest operating
cost. Long trouble-free life. Minimal maintenance.
WhisperFlo, the incredibly quiet, incredibly reliable pool
pump outperforms the competition by every measure.
Additional features include:
o Oversized strainer basket utilizes durable, flexible
material for long life.
• Unique FunnelFlo" diffuser and high-efficiency impeller
maximize water flow and energy efficiency while
minimizing turbulence and noise.
• WhisperFlo is made with high-temperature,
engineered thermoplastic to withstand extreme
heat and prevent corrosion.
• Energy efficient motor features commercial grade frame,
rust-proof suinless steel shaft, and permanently lubricated,
sealed bearings for long, trouble-free life.
• Available in single-and two-speed models.
o Three-year warranty. See warranty for complete details.

The # I sand filter in the world
Standard features include:
s Time-proven internal design ensures that all water receives
maximum fltration for crystal clear results.
• Patented GlasLok" process creates a one-piece,
fberglass reinforced tank with a UV-resistant coating
for years of dependable, corrosion resistant service.
e Flow system design controls filtration quality and ensures
maximum run times between backwashing.
Sand filters are one of the most popular ways to filter
watec For good reasons. They are simple, effective, and
require very little a[tention. Pool water is routed
through a sand-flled pressure vessel.The sand traps
particles large and small...so small they are undetectable
to the human eye.Over time, dirt accumulates in the
spaces between the sand particles causing the pressure
in the vesse) to rise as water finds it harder to pass
through. This signals you to "backwash" the filter. Simply
reverse the water flow and "knock out" the dirt. What
could be simpler.
But all sand filters are not created equal. For optimum
filtration all the water must flow through the same
amounx of sand at the proper rate. That's why all Pentair
sand filters feature a special internal design that keeps
the sand bed level, ensures even water flow, and results
in the most efficient filtration possible. That's why more
than 2 million Pentair filters have been insulled worldwide.
Triton II is the result of over 40 years of product evolution
and refinement. It has set the industry standard for
effectiveness, efficiency, long runs between service, and
providing years of dependable, low maintenance operation.
The best reputation in the
industry for all the right reasons
Besides iu superior filtration performance,Triton II delivers a
level of dependability and ease of operation and maintenance
for a track record that's unsurpassed. Every design detail has
been refined to make theTriton II the industry standard.
Additional features include:
s Easy access, heavy-duty closure with built-in pressure relief
valve makes inspection and maintenance fast, safe, and easy.
o Combination sand and water drain speeds servicing
and winterizing.
• All internal parts are threaded for ease of maintenance.
• Swing-away water diffuser allows instant access to
sand and all internal parcs.
• Ten-year tank warranty. See warranty for complete details.

How to Pick the Right Size Heater
Proper heater size is based on the time required to heat
the pool or spa. If water is heated for each intended (minus) -
use, energy-saving rapid heating may be appropriate. (equals) _
If water is gradually heated to the desired temperature (divided) e
and then maintained at that temperature, a smaller
heater may be acceptable. To determine proper heater (equals) _
size, use the following formula.
_ Desired water temperature (°F)
Average air temperature (°F)
Required temperature rise (°F)
_ Required time to heat pool/spa to desired
water temperature (hours).
_ Required temperature rise per hour (°F)

The design that unleashed
a new era in whisper-quiet
operation
The right pump should circulate all pool water at least
once a day...as efficiently as possible. Greater efficiency
means lower utility costs...and the key lies in the heart
of the pump's design. The secret is to minimize friction
and turbulence. Less friction means greater efficiency.
Less turbulence means less noise.
That's why all Pentair pumps feature a proprieury
hydraulic design that's been refined over 40 years for
superior performance. In fact, they are so efficient they
often deliver the required flow and pressure using

The # I sand filter in the world
Standard features include:
• Time-proven internal design ensures thax all water receives
maximum flcration for crystal clear results.
• Patented GlasLok' process creates a one-piece,
fiberglass reinforced tank with a UV-resistant coating
for years of dependable, corrosion resisxant service.
• Flow system design controls filtration quality and ensures
maximum run times between backwashing.
Sand filters are one of the most popular ways to filter
water. For good reasons. They are simple, effective, and
require very lixtle attention. Pool water is routed
through a sand-filled pressure vessel.The sand traps
particles large and small...so small they are undetectable
to the human eye. Over time, dirt accumulates in the
spaces between the sand particles causing the pressure
in the vessel to rise as water finds it harder to pass
through. This signals you to "backwash" the filter. Simply
reverse the water flow and "knock out" the dirt. What
could be simpler.
But all sand f Iters are not created equal. For optimum
filtration all the water must flow through the same
amount of sand at the proper rate. That's why all Pentair
sand filters feature a special internal design that keeps
the sand bed level, ensures even water flow, and results
in the most efficient filtration possible. That's why more
than 2 million Penuir filters have been installed worldwide.
Triton II is the result of over 40 years of product evolution
and refinemenx. It has set the industry standard for
effectiveness, efficiency, long runs between service, and
providing years of dependable, low maintenance operation.

Pool and Spa eater
The Pool and Spa Heating Expertss""
tage
In 197~4~ aypak engineers designed and tested a completely new heater, the Gemini,
specifically for the residential pool and spa market. The Gemini was the result of all of
Raypak's boiler experience dating back to 1948. With each evolution came increased effi-
ciency, improved serviceability, better performance and, of course, industry leading fea-
tures. At Raypak, the design of a burner may remain unchanged for over three decades.
After all, nothing is ever updated simply to call it "new". Improvements are painstakingly
crafted in our Oxnard engineering and manufacturing facility, by engineers continually
searching for solutions that are not only more innovative, but more effective. Only when
these innovations are proven to be an enhancement are they considered ready for pro-
duction.
Pffformance
At Raypak, this isn't merely a term attached to a more powerful heater. Performance is a
quality that is proven year after year, pool season after pool season, in cities across North
America. It is the inspired result of technology tuned in the laboratory, then transferred
onto the pool equipment pad. The RP2100 Digital stands as the purest expression of this
process - a heater that performs flawlessly in almost any environment it encounters.
Wind-resistant Design
Raypak engineers designed the first outdoor top thirty years ago and have perfected the
design in today's current RP2100. Performance and reliability are further enhanced by the
original "pagoda top" designed to keep the RP2100 operating even in windy conditions.
Our unique stackless top prevents wind, debris and rain run-off from getting inside. The
RP2100 does not require a draft-inducing fan to operate effectively in outdoor environ-
ments. When its designed right the first time, you don't need to change it!
Microprocessor Controlled Thermostat
The RP2100 Digital gas heater comes with a microprocessor-based control center. This
control allows you to set your pool or spa temperature precisely at your favorite setting just
by pressing an up or down temperature control button. The Digital display gives you a con-
stant readout of your pool water temperature. Just set it, and forget it! Truly simple. If only
your VCR were this easy to operate.
Self Diagnostic
Troubleshooting a Raypak gas heater has never been easier. The RP2100 Digital has on-
board diagnostic controls that let the user and the service professional know what is going
on with the heater at all times. In the event that you would ever have a problem with the
heater, the digital display will show where the problem is. IYs like having a service techni-
cian built into every heater!
Remote Compatible
The RP2100 is compatible with most major pool control and remote systems on the mar-
ket today. Any two-wire or three-wire remote can connect to the RP2110 Digital and be
integrated into the pool control system of your choice.
Condensation-free Operation
Both water temperature and flow rate inside the heater are controlled to help eliminate
condensation, sooting and scale buildup that can shorten the life of a heater. Raypak engi-
neered the U nitherm Governor specifically for pool heater applications, regulating low tem-
perature incoming water,to help reduce condensation. For over thirty years Raypak has
led the industry and refined its design in condensation protection.
Rust-free Waterways
The RP2100 Polymer is equipped with an integral copper finned tube heat exchanger,
stainless steel tube sheets and polymer header castings. Rust-free performance, especial-
ly important when heating spas and hot tubs, ensures stain-free operation for many years.
Even the smallest details such as the studs and nuts are made out of stainless steel. The
payoff? A heater that will last year after year and can easily be serviced if the need should
ever arise.
Stainless Steel Burners
Burner design is a critical component in any gas heater. This is why Raypak developed its
own burner over 50 years ago. The stainless steel burner used in the RP2100 Digital is
inherently forgiving and extremely robust. The burner is self adjusting to compensate for
gas pressure fluctuations allowing the unit to always burn clean and safely.

easily read even in bright sunlight.
Onboard diagnostic controls let the user

Ceramic fiber combustion box keeps the
RP2100 running efficiently and keeps the
outside jacket cool. This space-age mate-
rial reflects heat back towards the heat
exchanger. Since it does not retain heat,
the RP2100 can be plumbed with readily
available PVC piping.

Options
~J~
The RP2100 Digital heater is also available in an ASME version. Raypak has state inspec-
tors on-site daily performing certifications for our pool and commercial boiler production
that may require ASME. Being in the boiler business for over 50 years truly makes Raypak
the leader for your commercial needs. Why ASME? Most local codes require that public
pools, pools that are in condominiums, apartments, or other commercial applications be
ASME.certified. ASME stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. They are a
non-profit group which sets many industrial and manufacturing standards. A pool heater
that is made to ASME standards must perform to a set of specifications as determined by
ASME, specifically in relation to the operating water pressure the appliance can handle.
Each and every ASME heat exchanger that goes into a Raypak heater is certified by a state
inspector to make sure it complies with all the ASME codes for pool heaters.
Castlron Glass-Lined Header
Raypak has applied its years of commercial boiler experience to the design of the cast iron
glass-lined header. A metal header design allows for the higher working pressures
required by ASME. Only after the material meets the stress analysis and metal composi-
tion tests is it approved for use in an ASME unit. The Raypak RP2100 ASME gas heater
is equipped with .065" wall integral copper finned tubes. This tubing is over 50% larger
in wall thickness than standard tubing, providing additional resistance to leakage from
chemical corrosion.
-2 OVYL'r 1/e91t
Raypak offers an optional power vent feature. The D-2 Power Vent assembly is tested and
certified to the latest edition of the American National Standard ANSI Z21.56 for pool
heaters. Sometimes, equipment rooms or unusual venting configurations require the use
of a power vent. Being the heater experts, we have this option for you when the need may

The Power Vent assembly is a Category III mechanical draft venting system under a pos-
itive static pressure that avoids excessive condensate production in the vent. All sizes are
capable of relieving flue gases up to a maximum of 40 equivalent feet of vent length. All
models have a standard 4" diameter exhaust connection.
Multi-Position
Using the Raypak supplied adjustable 90° elbow, the flue gases may be discharged in any
direction. Or simply attach a vertical vent pipe. The D-2 Power Vent is also dual voltage
capable (120/240 volt) and engineered for long life and smooth operation. Factory set for
240 volts.
Safety at its Best
The Power Vent is equipped with a draft proving switch. This switch insures that the fan
is operating and proving draft before firing your heater. It is also equipped with a solid state
control that allows the fan to safely exhaust any residual combustion gases in the heater
after the heater has shut down.

The design that unleashed
a new era in whisper-quiet
Standard features include:
o Lower operating msts. Less horsepower required to produce
needed water flow, even when used in pool/spa combinations
and when operating in-floor cleaning systems.
o Whispervquiet operation documented in rigorous ETL tests.
• Patented oversized strainer basket reduces cleaning frequency.
• Easy-view lid design for instant inspection will remain clear and
strong for years. Plus, the clamp delivers even pressure to
eliminate air and water leaks.

The # I sand filter in the world
Standard features include:
• Time-proven internal design ensures that all water receives
maximum filtration for crysxal clear results.
• Patented GlasLok° process creates a one-piece,
fiberglass reinforced tank with a UV-resistant coating
for years of dependable, corrosion resistant service.
• Flow system design controls filtration quality and ensures
maximum run times between backwashing.
Sand filters are one of the most popular ways to filxer
water. For good reasons. They are simple, effective, and
require very little attention. Pool water is routed
through a sand-filled pressure vessel.The sand traps
particles large and small...so small they are undetectable
to the human eye.Over time, dirt accumulates in the
spaces between the sand particles causing the pressure
in the vessel xo rise as water finds it harder to pass
through. This signals you to "backwash" the flter.5imply
reverse the water flow and "knock out" the dirt. What
could be simpler.
But all sand filters are not created equal. For optimum
filtration all the water must Flow through the same
amount of sand at the proper raxe. That's why all Penuir
sand filters feature a special internal design that keeps
the sand bed level, ensures even water flow, and results
in the most efficient filtration possible. That's why more
than 2 million Penuir filters have been installed worldwide.

The RP2100 D'lg'ltal
The Pool and Spa Heating Expertss"'
In 1974~Raypak engineers designed and tested a completely new heater, the Gemini,
specifically for the residential pool and spa market. The Gemini was the result of all of
Raypak's boiler experience dating back to 1948. With each evolution came increased effi-
ciency, improved serviceability, better performance and, of course, industry leading fea-
tures. At Raypak, the design of a burner may remain unchanged for over three decatles.
After all, nothing is ever updated simply to call it "new". Improvements are painstakingly
crafted in our Oxnard engineering and manufacturing facility, by engineers continually
searching for solutions that are not only more innovative, but more effective. Only when
these innovations are proven to be an enhancement are they considered ready for pro-
duction.
Performance
At Raypak, this isn't merely a term attached to a more powerful heater. Performance is a
quality that is proven year after year, pool season after pool season, in cities across North
America. It is the inspired result of technology tuned in the laboratory, then transferred
onto the pool equipment pad. The RP2100 Digital stands as the purest expression of this
process - a heater that performs flawlessly in almost any environment it encounters.
Wind-resistant Design
Raypak engineers designed the first outdoor top thirty years ago and have perfected the
design in today's current R P2100.
In the event that you would ever have a probiem with the
heater, the digital display will show where the problem is.
Raypak engi-
neered the Unitherm Governor specifically for pool heater applications, regulating low tem-
perature incoming water,to help reduce condensation. For over thirry years Raypak has
led the industry and refined its design in condensation protection.

The Raypak outdoor top shields out wind
and debris, and prevents rain run-off
from getting inside. An optional indoor
draft hood or power vent is aiso available.
The digital controls are front located for
convenient operation. The microproces-
sor-based control center allows you to set
your pool or spa temperature simply by
pressing the up or down temperature
buttons.
Protected from harsh elements with a
smoked Lexan cover, the controls are
easily read even in bright sunlight.
Onboard diagnostic controls let the user
and the service professional know what
the heater is doing at all times. If a prob-
lem should ever occur, the digital display
clearly shows where the problem is.
Compatible with most remote systems in
the market today.
Ceramic fiber combustion box keeps the
RP2100 running efficiently and keeps the
outside jacket cool. This space-age mate-
rial reflects heat back towards the heat
exchanger. Since it does not retain heat,
the RP2100 can be plumbed with readily
available PVC piping.
Soft-opening gas vaive assures smooth
turn on, no "Hard LighY" to worry about
Easily removable burner tray and pilot
assembly makes service a simple task.

Raypak has been using the same reliable
spark-to-pilot ignition system for over 20
yea rs.

Finned tube heat exchanger. Since the
fins are integral to the tube, maximum
heat transfer is attained and maintained.
The fin tubing is made from one piece of
extruded copper, not from separate fins
attached to the copper tubes.

Options
The RP2100 Digital heater is also available in an ASME version. Raypak has state inspec-
tors on-site daily performing certifications for our pool and commercial boiler production
that may require ASME. Being in the boiler business for over 50 years truly makes Raypak
the leader for your commercial needs. Why ASME? Most local codes require that public
pools, pools that are in condominiums, apartments, or other commercial applications be
ASME certified.
Cast Iron Glass-Lined Header
Raypak has applied its years of commercial boiler experience to the design of the cast iron
glass-lined header. A metal header design allows for the higher working pressures
required by ASME. Only after the material meets the stress analysis and metal composi-
tion tests is it approved for use in an ASME unit. The Raypak RP2100 ASME gas heater
is equipped with .065" wall integral copper finned tubes. This tubing is over 50% larger
in wall thickness than standard tubing, providing additional resistance to leakage from
chemical corrosion.
-2 OVlI@C 1/e91#
Raypak offers an optional power vent feature. The D-2 Power Vent assembly is tested and
certified to the latest edition of the American National Standard ANSI Z21.56 for pool
heaters. Sometimes, equipment rooms or unusual venting configurations require the use
of a power vent. Being the heater experts, we have this option for you when the need may
arise.
Through-the-Wall Capable
The Power Vent assembly is a Category III mechanical draft venting system under a pos-
itive static pressure that avoids excessive condensate production in the vent. All sizes are
capabie of relieving flue gases up to a maximum of 40 equivalent feet of vent length. All
models have a standard 4" diameter exhaust connection.

To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is to address the changes in the framing plan of the residence located at~
~~►G~~eni~ in Wheatridge, C0. `
%.si5fvk,~i4:~?
The roof and the fruning structure has been modified by the Engineer of Record because
of the situation created by the original framer crew. The residence was not framed as
stated in the original approved drawings. The original framing was a stick framed roof
system The initial framer decided to frame the half of the roof system in trusses. This
created many structural problems, which had to be addressed.
These modifications were addressed in the initial change order letter written on 4-13-00.
These changes have been completed and re-inspected on 9-5-00. These modifications, as
completed by the current carpenter, have been inspected and meet with the approval of
this office and the UBC.
This office has included, on the following neaft two pages, a copy of the original change
order. This has been included for your review.
To Reiterate: The modifications to the framing system of the residence located at 8220
W. 40th Avenue have been supervised by this office and meet or exceed the required
design loads as set forth by tlus office and the UBC.

The following itexns must be conected or completed:
The Main Ridge Line is to long too plane with the existing roof on the West side of
