The criteria used in the analysis was a 40 lb/ sgft snow load and a wind load of 110 mph. Based on the mounting location the wind load resulted in 'a 7.6 Ib/sgft down load and a 20.5 Ib/sgft upload on each support arm.. The analysis of the mounting system was done and the structur v s farad to b built to withstand that now and wind load grit ria The snow load. placed a load of 1300 Ibs on. each support structure on the solar mounting system. The wind load placed a down load of 198 Ibs and an up load of 535 lbs on the structure, well within the load capabilities of the aluminum angle iron structure and the reenforced building wall mount location. I have found that the structure is stable, well contructed, an canable of supporting the additional weight and wind load of the described 60 solar panels and their mounting Nvstem. The structure is over 30 years old and as is typical of earlier construction, it is dramaticaily overbuilt by current day standards. The structure consists of 4 steel columns made of 6" schedule 40 steel pipe with io" steel I beams welded to the top of each column. Each set of two columns is connected by a single I beam that extends back to the actual office building where it loosely sets in a notch in the front wall of the building. Each column is set in the ground with concrete. Calculations were done to determine the load bearing capacity of the columns, the buckling load required to cause a column failure, and the direct load that each column set is capable of carrying. For these tested the weight of the entire system was calculated as being loaded on a single structural pair of columns to ensure a ioo% safety margin. From these calculations it was determined that with the additional load the structure is still only being loaded to 20% of its design capacity. Sincerely, ! Unless otherwise designated, all referenced specifications, standards or policies shall be the latest edition as revised or updated by approved supplements published and issued prior to the date of the building permit. REQUIREMENTS All materials sampling and testing shall be performed by certified, experienced and qualified materials testing technicians who work under the supervision of a registered professional engineer in the State of Colorado. All materials sampling and testing equipment shall be serviceable and calibrated. Soil classifications and moisture-density curves shall be provided to the Deparhnent of Public Works inspector prior to in-place density testing. Materials testing technicians shall fiunish copies of failed test results to the inspector promptly as the results become available. On a weekly basis when testing is being performed, the developer shall furnish the inspector with copies of all test results taken during the prior week and a cover letter, signed by the supervising registered professional engineer, which summarizes the results and discusses any failed tests or inconsistencies. The City materials testing requirements are provided in Table 720-1. All testing procedures, point of verification and central lab requirements shall be as specified in the Frequency Guide Schedule of the Colorado Deparhnent of Transportation Field Materials Manual. One test is required for any fraction of the specified frequency. The reference to Section 203.07 in the table is from the Colorado Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction.
