The letter stated that the City had required 16 "No Parking" signs along 43rd Drive and subsequently approved their installation. The Public Works Department has reviewed the development file and found no record stating that the City requested 16 "No Parking" signs to cover the enrire shetch of 43d Drive. In addition, we find no record stating that the Department had approved the installation. Myfieldinspectionoftheexisting"NoParking"signs on 43d Drive on March 20,2001 reveals that these signs are too far apart for drivers to read the information. Secondly, the sign orientation was not done to city standazds. The current sign facing does not allow the drivers to see the sign until they are next to it. In orderto rectifythis signing matter, the Public Works Departmentrequests that additional "No Parking" signs be placed along 43rd Drive so that drivers can be able to read the inforxnation from any location along the street. ~ Also, the signs need to insCalled at a 45-degree angle for their visibility. It is my understanding that since 43' r Drive is a relatively long cul-de-sac street, the fire deparlment relies on this street to be clear of on-street parking at all time to maintain their optimum response time. Thus, effective signing must exist on trus street to achieve that. Please see copy attached. Back in the summer of 1999, the City of Wheat Ridge approved all of our final plans on the 44`h Industrial Park, which included signage. The plans called for 16 No Parking Signs with specific locations as described in the plan that you have in your possession. Those signs were all installed by In-Line at a cost of $275.00 each. This was inspected and approyed at the time. The plan you have sent me calls for 58 signs and represents some illusion by someone at the City of Wheat Ridge that has never had a single conversation about this topic in the past year and one-half until I received your letter two weeks ago. Please find attached, a copy of a`ho parking sign" layout plan that has been prepazed by the City of Wheat Ridge Traffic Engineer for your site. The plan details the minimum requirements needed to install the signs; any questions should be directed to Steve N:guyen, City Traffic Engineer 303-235-2862.
