REGARDING ROOF VENTILATION: Roof ventilation shall comply with IBC Sec. 1203.2 or IRC Sec. R806. The installation of ridge venting requires the installation or existence of soffit venting. For calculation purposes, one hat or turtle vent equal to one-half of one square foot of opening. Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be complete and 25-75 percent of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are required to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions, whichever is more stringent. This transformer has a single load, the large smoke house. The transfortner came from the former location of the meat packing store as paR of the smoke house. The over current protection at that location was the same as it is now, i.e., 100 amp 3-phase 208 volts. The determination that the over current protection is correct is based on the full load amps of the transformer and the provisions of Table 450-313 of the National Electrical Code 2008 edition. The transfortner is a 30Kva 3-phase unit. The full load current was calculated using the following formula: I(current)=Kva(nameplate rating)N(phase to phase voltage) X 1.73(since the transfortner is 3-phase). Therefore, the calculation is done in this manner: I=30000/(208 X 1.73). The result of this calculation is 83.3 amps. Following the requirements of Table 450-36, the full load amps of 83.3 is then multiplied by 125% since the transformer is more than 9 amps. The calculation takes on the following form: I(protective device)=83.3 X 1.25 or 104 amps. Further, Table 450.36 does not require secondary protection for this transformer. The 100 amp breaker currently used to protect transfortner T-1 fall within the guidelines of the Nation Electrical Code 2008 edition and will service the load correctly.
