Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) requires an approved inspection
prior to installation of ANY roof coverings and is require on the entire roof when spaced
or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Asphalt shingles are
required to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and
water shield is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above
the roof eave and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections.
Roof ventilation is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer
installation instructions, whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection
of elastomeric or similar type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the
manufacturer technical representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project
address) has been applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof
material brand name) roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final
inspection.
Roof inspections for ROOFS OVER 6/12 PITCH: 3rd party inspection will be required, the 3rd
party inspection report will be collected at final roof inspection performed by City of
Wheat Ridge. If report is not available the final inspection will not be completed.

RE: Exemption Permit for sole source heat or exemnt solid-fuel-burnine devices.
To Whom It May Concem,
It has come to our attention that Exemption Permits allowing the operation of solid-fuel devices on
high pollution days have been issued in the past in violation of Article N, Section 9-41 of the City of Wheat
Ridge Code of Laws. Exemption permits that have been issued for sole source of heat for garages and
workshops do not meet the intent of the ordinance due to "sole source of heaY" being intended for residential
heat.
There-are two methods in which an exempfion permit may be issued:
An exemption to operate solid-fuel devices on high pollution days issued under the following
circumstances and upon submission of an application demonstrating eligibility:
(1)a. Sole source of heat. Any person who relies on a solid-fuel-buming device installed prior
to the effective date of this article as their sole source of heat shall be eligible for an
exemption hereunder. Any person applying for such an exemption must sign a swom
statement that they rely on a solid-fuel-buming device installed prior to the effecrive date
of this article as their sole source of residential heat.
(1)b. Approved or exempt solid fuel-batrning devices. Any person who operates an approved or
exempt solid-fuel-burning device shall be eligible for an exemption from the prohibition or
operation contained in subparagraph (1)a. of this definition. Persons enritled to an
exemption under this article shall be issued an exemption permit which must be displayed
on the premises to which the exemption applies and be visible from a place ofpublic access
on high pollution days.
Please find attached a copy of the entire article in which it states what approved or exempt solid-fuel-
buming devices are allowed. If you feel you aze eligible for an exemption permit for an "approved solid fuel
burning device" as defined in the attached, provide documentation from the manufacturer related to the
device for review by the Building Department and request an inspection of the device as stated in Section
9-41.1 of the attached article.
