Below is a summary of the observations made regarding the design letter by this firm dated 2/12/2020: • Beam #1: Beam #1 and the columns supporting it were installed in general compliance with the approved design letter. • Header: The header and the columns supporting it were installed in general compliance to the approved design letter. Beam #1 Notes: The concrete header below the column support for Beam #1 is adequate to support the new point load from the beam. The concrete header is 9 %2" wide by 13" deep. Assuming there is no reinforcement in the header the cracking moment for the header is approximately 5900 ft -Ib. The maximum design moment for the header is approximately 2150 ft -Ib. The header is at approximately 36% of it's capacity assuming there is no reinforcement rebar and is adequate to support the design loads. Floor Joist Notes: At your request 1 reviewed the capacity of several floor joists with holes drilled through them for electrical wiring/plumbing. The floor joists in question span approximately 10'-7" and are assumed to be 2x8 DF -L members. The worst case scenario observed was a 1.5" diameter hole drilled approximately 2'-9" from one end of the joist centered approximately 2" above the bottom edge of the joist. • The maximum allowable bending moment capacity of the joist at the hole location is approximately 850 ft -Ib. • The maximum design moment applied to the joist at the hole location is approximately 725 ft -Ib. • The maximum allowable shear capacity of the joist at the hole location is approximately 990 lb- • The maximum design shear applied to the joist at the hole location is approximately 200 Ib. The following is a summary of the observed conditions as well as the recommended designs and modifications to perform in order to remove this wall. Wall #1: Wall #1 is running north to south and separates the kitchen from the living room/hallway. The wall is carrying approximately 11'-8" of ceiling/attic load. Two openings are proposed in Wall #1. The length of the first opening between the kitchen and living room is to be approximately 10'. The length of the second opening between the living room and the hallway is to be approximately 3'. Design criteria: 2018 IRC with City of Wheat Ridge Amendments Attic LL: 20psf Attic DL: 10psf Beam #1: Install a minimum (2) 1%"x7%" 2.0E Microllam LVL beam for the first opening in Wall #1. Fasten the plies of the beam together with (3) rows of 10d nails spaced 12"o.c. Each end of the beam is to bear on a (2) 2x4 built up column fastened per Figure 1 below with screws through one side. The south column is to bear on the exterior foundation wall. The north column is to bear on the interior foundation wall in the basement below. The general contractor is responsible for installing squash blocking as needed to ensure a continuous load path. Beam #1 Notes: The concrete header below the column support for Beam #1 is adequate to support the new point load from the beam. The concrete header is 9 %2" wide by 13" deep. Assuming there is no reinforcement in the header the cracking moment for the header is approximately 5900 ft -Ib. The maximum design moment for the header is approximately 2150 ft -Ib. The header is at approximately 36% of it's capacity assuming there is no reinforcement rebar and is adequate to support the design loads. Floor Joist Notes: At your request 1 reviewed the capacity of several floor joists with holes drilled through them for electrical wiring/plumbing. The floor joists in question span approximately 10'-7" and are assumed to be 2x8 DF -L members. The worst case scenario observed was a 1.5" diameter hole drilled approximately 2'-9" from one end of the joist centered approximately 2" above the bottom edge of the joist. • The maximum allowable bending moment capacity of the joist at the hole location is approximately 850 ft -Ib. • The maximum design moment applied to the joist at the hole location is approximately 725 ft -Ib. • The maximum allowable shear capacity of the joist at the hole location is approximately 990 lb- • The maximum design shear applied to the joist at the hole location is approximately 200 Ib. Friable asbestos can be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to a powder by hand pressure when dry. Non - friable asbestos is any material that cannot be crumbled, pulverized or reduced to a powder by hand pressure when dry. Per the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) procedures published in Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 40 Part 763, Subpart E — Asbestos -containing Materials in Schools and Colorado Regulation 8 (Regulation 8), suspect Asbestos Containing Building Materials (ACBM) must be properly sampled and analyzed prior to any renovation or demolition activities. The purpose of this sampling was to evaluate for the presence of any ACM in the areas identified. The inspection was conducted in accordance with Regulation 8. These inspection protocols specify requirements for the inspector (Section 763.85), laboratory (Section 763.87), and number of samples collected during an inspection (Section 763.86). 1.0 FIELD ACTIVITIES The inspection was conducted by a Colorado State Certified Asbestos Building Inspector on January 10, 2019. This inspection involved identification and sampling of suspect ACM at the above referenced property. Bulk samples of suspect ACM were collected by the Inspector in general conformance with Asbestos Hazardous Emergency Response Act (AHERA) protocols as outlined in Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Regulation 8. Random samples of suspect materials were collected in each homogeneous area (see Table 1 — Homogeneous Materials Table). Samples were placed in sealable containers and labeled with unique sample numbers using an indelible marker. Eurofins, CEI. is accredited under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) Lab Code: 101768-0. Friable asbestos can be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to a powder by hand pressure when dry. Non - friable asbestos is any material that cannot be crumbled, pulverized or reduced to a powder by hand pressure when dry. Below is a summary of the observations made regarding the design letter by this firm dated 2/12/2020: • Beam #1: Beam #1 and the columns supporting it were installed in general compliance with the approved design letter. • Header: The header and the columns supporting it were installed in general compliance to the approved design letter. Beam #1 Notes: The concrete header below the column support for Beam #1 is adequate to support the new point load from the beam. The concrete header is 9 %2" wide by 13" deep. Assuming there is no reinforcement in the header the cracking moment for the header is approximately 5900 ft -Ib. The maximum design moment for the header is approximately 2150 ft -Ib. The header is at approximately 36% of it's capacity assuming there is no reinforcement rebar and is adequate to support the design loads. Floor Joist Notes: At your request 1 reviewed the capacity of several floor joists with holes drilled through them for electrical wiring/plumbing. The floor joists in question span approximately 10'-7" and are assumed to be 2x8 DF -L members. Below is a summary of the observations made regarding the design letter by this firm dated 2/12/2020: • Beam #1: Beam #1 and the columns supporting it were installed in general compliance with the approved design letter. • Header: The header and the columns supporting it were installed in general compliance to the approved design letter. Beam #1 Notes: The concrete header below the column support for Beam #1 is adequate to support the new point load from the beam. The concrete header is 9 %2" wide by 13" deep. Assuming there is no reinforcement in the header the cracking moment for the header is approximately 5900 ft -Ib. The maximum design moment for the header is approximately 2150 ft -Ib. The header is at approximately 36% of it's capacity assuming there is no reinforcement rebar and is adequate to support the design loads. Floor Joist Notes: At your request 1 reviewed the capacity of several floor joists with holes drilled through them for electrical wiring/plumbing. The floor joists in question span approximately 10'-7" and are assumed to be 2x8 DF -L members.
