HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/16/1993 September 16, 1993 SPECIAL STUDY SESSION MINUTES The Special Study Session Meeting was called to order by Mayor Winger at 7 10 p m Councilmerubers present Ron Selstad, Tony FIasco, Vance Edwarjs, Dennis Hall, Elise Brougham Also present City Administra- tor, Bob Middaugh, Deputy City Clerk, Christa Jones, Associate City Attorney, Rebecca Parker, staff, and interested citizens Councilmember Phil Edwards arrived at 7 15 pm, Councilmember Don Eafanti arrived at 7 18 Kent Davis was absent Mayor Winger welcomed Bill Nicholas, representing TCI, which is the Cable Company franchised in the city of Wheat Ridge Mr Nicholas gave a brief presentation about the changes in the Cable Industrv, now that it is a regulated industry He addressed the concern that cable subscribers have, that Channels 2, 4, 7, and 9 would no longer be available on Cable He feels that an agreement will be reached between the cable companies and t~e stations The worst case scenario would be that AB switches would be provided to subscribers and they could still see the channels, although they would need outside antennas The basic rate in Wheat Ridge is the lowest of any suburb in the area He then answered numerous council questions and concerns that included charge for the boxes, charge for service calls, unanswered telephones, poor picture quality, actual increase in cost rather than a cut as presented, favorite channels no longer available, boxes that don't work, promises to the City that were broken Mr Selstad asked for consensus that City Attorney study the Franchise Agreement with TCI and report to Council what the agreement requires TCI to provide to the City and the subscribers and a report which of these requirements are actually followed by TrI Consensus was 6 in favor to provide these reports to Council Meeting adjourned at 8 45 p m ~: '\ \J Christa Jones, Deputv City Clerk
