Mayor Winger welcomed Bill Nicholas, representing TCI, which is the
Cable Company franchised in the city of Wheat Ridge
Mr Nicholas gave a brief presentation about the changes in the Cable
Industrv, now that it is a regulated industry He addressed the concern
that cable subscribers have, that Channels 2, 4, 7, and 9 would no
longer be available on Cable He feels that an agreement will be
reached between the cable companies and t~e stations The worst case
scenario would be that AB switches would be provided to subscribers and
they could still see the channels, although they would need outside
antennas The basic rate in Wheat Ridge is the lowest of any suburb in
the area
He then answered numerous council questions and concerns that included
charge for the boxes, charge for service calls, unanswered telephones,
poor picture quality, actual increase in cost rather than a cut as
presented, favorite channels no longer available, boxes that don't work,
promises to the City that were broken
Mr Selstad asked for consensus that City Attorney study the Franchise
Agreement with TCI and report to Council what the agreement requires TCI
to provide to the City and the subscribers and a report which of these
requirements are actually followed by TrI Consensus was 6 in favor to
provide these reports to Council
Meeting adjourned at 8 45 p m
