I believe that even if you or someone in the future roofed the patio cover, using a 25# snow load, the structure is still adequate. The total load would be 5250# (10.5' X 20' X 25#) or 2625# on the house ledgers and 2625# on the three 4 X 4 posts. Each outer post would support approximately (5.67' X 5.25' X 25#) 744.19# snow load and the middle post would support approxunately (8.67' X 5.25' X 25#) 1137.944 snow load if roofed over. I think the thickened slab at the edges is adequate to cany this load. Tom, these are my opinions based on 38 years' experience building with a 75# to 100# snow load in the Aspen area. I also have a civil engineering BS degree from the University of Colorado; however, I never applied to be a registered engineer.
