Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof
when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and
mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be
complete and 25-75 percent of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are required
to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield
is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar
type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical
representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project address) has been
applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof material brand name)
roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final inspection.
Midroof & Final Roof inspections for ROOFS OVER 6/12 PITCH: 3rd party inspection will be
required, the 3rd party inspection report AND THE ORIGINAL PERMIT CARD needs to be dropped
off to the Permit Desk at the City of Wheat Ridge. The report MUST BE SIGNED by the
Homeowner.

2. This permit shall expire 365 days after the date of issuance regardless of activity. Requests for extension must be made in writing and
received prior to the date of expiration. An extension of no more than 180 days made be granted at the discretion of the Chief Budding
Official and may be subject to a fee equal to one-half of the originalermit fee.
3. If this permit expires, a new permit may be required to be obtained. Issuance of a new permit shall be subject to the standard

Residential Roofing Permit Application
This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received and due to the volume of requests, time to process
varies and is subject to change. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR
PERMIT IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE
AND TIME WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if
your contractor's license or insurance has expired, and you may update those
documents at the time you are issued your permit.
For all other requests:
Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in person
at City Hall. Revisions to existing permits (for example, to add redecking) must be
completed in person at City Hall. All other non -roofing permits must be completed in
person at City Hall. The Building Division will be open from 7:30-10:30 a.m.,
Monday through Friday to process these types of requests.

This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received and due to the volume of requests, time to process
varies and is subject to change. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR
PERMIT IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE
AND TIME WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if

person at City Hall. The Building Division will be open from 7:30-10:30 a.m.,

GENERAL C
This report presents the results of a subsoil investigation conducted at the
site of the proposed Fruitdale Patio Homes Subdivision, which is located at West
45th Avenue, east of Parfet Street, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The investigation
was performed to determine the best types and depths of foundations,
allowabie soil bearing pressures, ground water conditions, and any special
precautions that should be taken in the design or construction of the structures
due to the soii and ground water conditions.
The conciusions and recommendations presented are based on the data
gathered during the site investigation, the results of the laboratory testing and
our experience with similar soil and ground water conditions.
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION AND SITE CONDITIONS
The proposed building types are uncertain st this time but assumed to be
one or two story duplex buildings with partial basements and attached garages.
Construction is assumed to be of reinforced concrete foundations with wood
fame and bricl< veneer superstructures.
The site was unoccupied at the time of the test hole drilling. The ground
surface slopes very gently to the east with approximately 7 feet at elevation
change noted.
SUBSOIL CONDITIONS AND FIELD INVESTIGATION
Four test holes were driiled at the locations shown on Figure 1, Test Hole
Location Plan. The soiis encountered in the test holes are shown on Figure 2,
Logs of Test Holes, and described on Figure 3, Legend and Notes. Samples of
the soils encountered were taken at the depths shown on Figure 2.
The soils encountered in the test holes were fairly uniform. Generaliy, 10
feet of inedium to coarse grained sands and gravels were encountered at the
surface of the test holes, overlying wet sands and gravels. No bedrock was
found in the test holes to the maximum depths drilled.

The soils encountered in the test holes are either non swelling or have C
only very low sweliing potentials. The sands (with fewer gravels) will
consolidate under heavy structure loads. The results of grain size distribution
testing performed on samples taken from the test holes are shown of Figure 4-
7.
Free water was encountered in Test Holes 2, 3 and 4 at depth 10 feet at
the time of drilling.
FOUNDATIONS - CONVENTIONAL SPREAD FOOTINGS
The duplexes may be founded on conventional spread footings that are
piaced on the natural soils and designed for a maximum soil bearing pressure of
2,000 pounds per square foot. The bottom of the footings supports exterior
wails should be a minimum of 30 inches below final grade for firost protection.
The dead load on footings should be proportioned as much as practicable to
minimize differential settlement.
Experience has shown that loose pockets of soil are sometimes present
in deposits such as these. Loose pockets of soil encountered under footings
should be removed and replaced with compacted gravel.
ADDITIONAL FOUNDATION DESIGN CRITERIA
Lateral earth pressures on walls depend on such factors as the type of
wall, hydrostatic pressure behind the wall, type and slope of backfill material,
degree of baclcfill compaction, allowable wali movements, and surcharge
loading. The hydrostatic pressures may be minimized by placing a drain system
around the perimeter of the foundation walls.
Basement walls should be designed for an active equivalent fluid pressure
of 35 pcf. The backfill shouid be compacted following the recommendations
outlined below (see Backfill and Surface Drainage). No consideration was given
to sloping baclcfill, surcharge loading, hydrostatic pressures, or horizontal
sweiling pressures in the computation of the active equivalent fluid pressure.

If any of these conditions are anticipated, we are available to assist you in C
revising these criteria.
Foundation walls should be reinforced with a minimum of two #5 bars,
or equivalent, continuous at the top and bottom of the wall (at maximum
vertical spacing). This will give the waiis beam strength and help to minimize
the effects of slight differential settlement. Refer to the foundation design for
additional reinforcing detaiis.
SLAB CONSTRUCTION
The soils encountered in the test holes are adequate for supporting
concrete floor slabs. It is good practice to separate slabs from all bearing
members and utility lines to allow their independent movements. Slabs may be
poured directly on the undisturbed natural soils or well compacted fill. Also,
joints should be scored in the slabs to control the location of any cracking
(maximum 200 square foot areas).
BASEMENT CONSTRUCTION
Ground water was encountered in the test holes at depth 10 feet.
Therefore, lower level construction is not recommended below depth 5 feet.
As a precaution to an overall ground water rise, a subsurface drainage
system should be installed beneath habitable space slabs below final grade. The
drain system shouid be composed of a minimum 6 inch thick layer of clean
gravel (minimum 0.75 inch size) under a drain system constructed around the
perimeter of the foundation. The drain should be sloped to a sump permitting
pump discharge. A pump should be installed in the sump to discharge the drain
system as necessary. Refer to Figure 8 for construction details. We should be
called to observe the foundation excavations to verify the drain system details.

BACKFILL & SURFACE DRAINAGE
The foundation soils should be prevented from being wetted after
construction. This can generally be accomplished by insuring that the backfill
placed around the foundation walls to include excavation ramp backfills, will not
settle after the completion of construction, and that the backfill material is
relatively impervious. The backfill material should be free of trash and it should
be moistened and somewhat compacted. The top and bottom two feet of the
backfills should be well compacted, but the middle portions of the backfills
should be only slightly compacted. These compaction recommendations also
apply to foundation ramp backfiils, which are especially important. All ramp
backfills that are a minimum 4 feet away from foundation should be well
compacted, if possible. Do not puddle backfill materials. Care should be taken
during backfilling to insure that the walls are adequately braced.
The final grade of the backfill shouid have a positive slope away from all
foundation walls. A minimum fall of 12 inches in the first 10 feet away from
the structures is recommended. Downspouts and sill cocks should discharge
into splash blocks when the ground surface is not protected by concrete slabs
or asphalt topping.
LAWN IRRIGATION
The builder and/or future owners should understand that a sprinkler
system should not be installed next to foundation wails or next to exterior slabs
(porch, patio, driveway or sidewalk). If a sprinkler system is installed, the
sprinkier heads should be placed so the spray from the heads, under full
pressure, does not fall within 5 feet of the foundation walls or exterior slabs.
It is strongly recommended that the future owners be advised to install
automatic shut off valves as an integral part of the sprinkler systems to help
prevent leakage.
Particular care should be taken during final landscaping of the site. If the
owners desire to plant next to foundation walls or exterior slabs it should be

understood that there is a risk of future damage if wetting of the foundation
soils occurs. Therefore, it is advisable to piant only native vegetation next to
the foundation or exterior slabs that requires very little irrigation or oniy natural
precipitation.
As an alternative to planting next to foundations and exterior slabs, it is
advisable to install decorative landscaped areas such as gravel and/or bark. If
decorative areas are instailed, the gravel or bark should be placed directly on the
soils or on a non-woven, geotextile fabric, which will allow natural evaporation
to occur and will still inhibit weed growth - the use of polyethylene is not
recommended. The edges of decorative areas should be constructed to ailow
surface drainage to be quickly discharged away from foundation walis or
exterior slabs. This can be accomplished by insuring that the edges of
decorative areas are above the adjacent lawn or ground surface, and that
drainage is not impeded by grass stops. All grass stops should be perforated
or lowered to allow discharge out of the decorative areas. Refer to Figure 8 for
a typical decorative installation detail.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - DEVELOPMENT
Construction Problems
Caving soils and ground water will be encountered in deep utility
trenches. Deep excavations in caving soils should be well sloped or adequately
shored to prevent wali collapse. The application governmentai safety regula-
tions should be followed. In addition, the soils from the excavations shouid be
stockpiled a minimum of five feet away from the edges of the excavations.
Ground water wiil be encountered in utility excavations in some areas across the
site. It is believed that pumping will not be required to dewater the excavation
if utility depths can be limited to depth 8 feet. Construction probiems with any
free water encountered can be minimized by beginning the construction at the
system outfall.

Paving Thickness Repuirements C
The soils encountered in the test holes are excellent roadway support
materials. It is believed that City of Wheat Ridge minimum paving thickness will
be required. This should be verified by performing a paving thickness
determination following overlot grading.
Soil Grain Size/Permeabilitv
Grain size determinations were performed on 4 samples taken from the
test holes. These test resuits are probabiy not completely accurate because of
the sampiing techniques used - from a 4.5 inch diameter drill hole. To properly
define the grain size distributions of the soils, much larger samples wouid be
required and the sampies would have to be taken using a backhoe. However,
the gradation tests performed do provide guidance concerning the size of
materials present. Based on our gradation analyses, permeabilities on the order
of 10-3 to 10-' cm/sec are applicabie. It is our understanding that the installation
of "dry-well" infiltration wells is contemplated along the east property line to
dispose of surface run off. It is recommended that conservative permeabilities
be used (103 to 10-2 cm/sec) in determining size requirements for the wells, as
these data are based on grain size distributions, only. If the well sizes become
overly large, it may be advisable to perform some in-place, permeability tests on
the gravels at the proposed in-flow elevations.
DESIGN CONSULTATION & CONSTRUCTION OBSERVATIONS
This report has been prepared for the exclusive purpose of providing
geotechnical design criteria for the proposed project in accordance with
generally accepted soils and foundation engineering practices. No other
warranty, expressed or implied, is made. If any changes in the nature or design
of the project are planned, the conclusions and recommendations contained in
this report shali not be considered valid unless the changes are reviewed and the
conclusions and recommendations of this report modified or verified in writing.

It is recommended that we be provided the opportunity for a general C
review of the final design and specifications to insure that the earthwork and
foundation recommendations have been properly interpreted and implemented
in the design and specifications.
It is also recommended that the future owner be info[med of those items
covered under the headings Interior Floor Slab Construction, Backfill and Surface
Drainage and Lawn Irrigation. The owner should also be especially aware of the
necessity of maintaining good surface drainage on the site and the importance
of keeping excessive water from the foundation backfill soils.
In any geotechnical investigation it is necessary to assume that the
subsoil conditions do not vary from those encountered in the test holes. Our
experience has shown that these variations exist and that they become apparent
in the foundation excavations. It is therefore recommended that we be called
to visually observe the foundation excavations prior to construction and to test
the placement of fill on the site.
Please contact us when further consultation or construction observation
services are necessary. The costs of these further services are not included in
the fee for this report.
