Ref #06-5029 At your request, a representative of Colorado Geoscience & Design, Inc., conducted a site observation of the garage located at 6505 West 45t' Avenue, Lakewood Colorado. There is an existing single-family residence with a carport located at the site. The residence was constructed approximately in 1980. The residence is currently being remodeled. The carport is a lean to structure with a roof. The roof is supported on 4- 6"x6° support columns bearing on 4- 8" to 10" diameter drilled piers. The depth and diameter of the drilled piers is uncertain. End walls, with an 8-0 door at the front, and a 3-0 door at the rear, and side walls were constructed. The end walls are attached to the side of the existing residence and the 6"x6° support columns, and the side walls to the 6°x6" support columns. The end walls bear on newly poured concrete slabs at the front and rear of the garage. There is a cnncrete slab on the interior of the garage but does not extend to the edge of the new side walls, therefore the side walls are suspended above the at-grade soil. The lean-to is approximately 26 years old. Visual observation detected no signs of distress or deterioration. Because of the current construction; the county is concemed about water intrusion into the garage. We recommend #4 rebar dowelled 6" in#a the existing 4° concrete slab at 24" centers and the new slab poured to the outer edge of the new walls and caulked.
