A jobsite observation of the condition of the existing framing system was performed by an audit team of Blue Raven Solar as a
request from Domus Structural Engineering. All review is based on these observations and the design criteria listed below and
only deemed valid if provided information is true and accurate.
On the above referenced project, the roof structural framing has been reviewed for additional loading due to the installation of
the solar PV addition to the roof. The structural review only applies to the section of the roof that is directly supporting the solar
PV system and its supporting elements. The observed roof framing is described below. If field conditions differ, contractor to
notify engineer prior to starting construction.
The roof structure of (All MP's) consists of composition shingle on roof plywood that is supported by 2x6 rafters @ 24"o.c. with
ceiling joists acting as rafter ties. The rafters have a max projected horizontal span of 11'-9", with a slope of 20 degrees. The
rafters are connected at the ridge to a ridge board and are supported at the eave by a load bearing wall.
The existing roof framing system of (All MP's) are judged to be inadequate to withstand the loading imposed by the installation of
the solar panels. Structural reinforcement is required. Sister upgrade is required for (Ail MP's) on all rafters that directly support
solar and that have spans more than 9'-4" PV. Stitch new 2x6 DF#2 (min) to existing member with Simpson SDW 22300 screws @
16"o.c. or 10d nails @ 6"o.c.. Lap as needed with 4'-0" minimum lap per attached detail.
The spacing of the solar standoffs should be kept at 72" o.c. for landscape and 48" o.c. for portrait orientation, with a staggered
pattern to ensure proper distribution of loads.
The scope of this report is strictly limited to an evaluation of the fastener attachment, underlying framing and supporting
structure only. The attachment's to the existing structure are required to be in a staggered pattern to ensure proper distribution
of loading. All panels, racking and hardware shall be installed per manufacturer specifications and within specified design
limitations. All waterproofing shall be provided by the manufacturer. Domus Structural Engineering assumes no responsibility for
misuse or improper installation of the solar PV panels or racking.
Note: Seismic check is not required since Ss<.4g and Seismic Design Category (SDC) < B
Design Criteria:
• Applicable Codes = 2012 IBC/IRC, ASCE 7-10
• Roof Dead Load = 9 psf (All MP's)

ensuring that the slider sits flat on the
flashing surface.
INSTALL FASTENER & TIGHTEN:
Install fastener with seating washer.

DARRIN,
I HAD A COMPLAINT ABOUT "REMOVED LANDSCAPING" AT 10920 W. 39'~
AVENUE. I DROVE OUT THERE AND FOUND A VERY WEIRD SITUATION.
• all of the dirt in the front yazd has been dug up and pushed against the house
• there are no glass windows
• windows aze boarded up and painted to match the house
• spoke with a neighbor, who informed me the ladies name is Norma and she is a
schizophrenic
• neighbor said Norma is nice, just really odd & paranoid
• one previous "assist only" in 1997 history with police, she wouldn't let them in
• there's a scarf hooked to the outside porch lamp which then runs down to the doorknob
-my impression being it was securing the door
• neighbor said that Public Service came out a few years ago and tumed off the gas
(and it has been off ever since) . She believes that this is why she is moving the dirt (to
keep in the heat)
• Per Public Service- gas is off & the electric is on
• no previous code / building contact
• Jefferson Center for Mental Health said we should ask the police to do a welfare check on
her
• Per Consolidated Water, there is no water to the residence
I don't know what to do. Citing her far landscape requirements does not seem to be the most
appropriate thing. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Claudia 1~

Dear Ray,
On S8turtlay afternoon, a man (I ddn't catch his name. ) employed by Jonn, the
Cement sub-contractor, came by to discuss the carport slab. He wanted to rriske sure
that he got the job right. I was vary glatl that John had hirgd nim, fior ! was impressed
by his knowledge and thoroughness.
As you and ! had discussed last week, the foundation wall is not Yrigh enough by 4 1/2
to 5 inches_ The man hired by John agreeq with what you hatl told me about
correcting the problem wiYh a"thickened edge" to make the carpprt siab and driveway
Ievel with my current driveway. As I understand it, the siab itself Can only have a 2
inch drop-ofiF slOping to the east for run-off in order t0 pYOVide enough level Surfac2, so
people can stop in time given the steepness of the driveway. 7herefore, the thickness
of the slab neM to the garage wall wilf have to be anyuvhere from 9 1/2 to 10 inches,
gradually reducing in tMickness to 7 1/2 to 8 inches thick along the Eastern side.
Given that the original slab was designed to be 4 inches thick, ! consulted with my
architect about these changes. He said tha# the foundation wall could hold up the
thickened slab, but that the diR and/or road fill had to be compaCted enough to hold up
the extra weight to prevent the middle from sinking. .
A recommendation is that we tape up a copy of the architecturai drawings to the
ouGside of the garage window. In this way, the sub-contractors would have the exact
measurements and details, atong with a picture of the whole project. I woultl prefer
that you put up a copy with any necessary changes, rdther than mine which hds none.
Nowever, if that cannot tre arranged, t'tl be glad to have mine Copied and taped up
with a note to call yau befora proceeding to find out any changes.
After this weekend, I feel confiderrt that the problem of;he t00 short foundation wail
can be remedied. In the future, it is my wish, as I dm Sure it is yours, that this projeCt
moves forvuard as ptanned.
Talk to you soon.
Sincerely,
9A*U 440C~
