approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) requires an approved inspection
prior to installation of ANY roof coverings and is require on the entire roof when spaced
or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding k/2 -inch exists. Asphalt shingles are required to
be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield is
required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturera€ms installation_
instructions, whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of
elastomeric or similar type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the
manufacturer's technical representative stating that "the application of the roof at

This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR PERMIT
IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE AND TIME
WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if your

How to Use this Guide
At least three completed documents must be provided to apply for a building permit:
1 Complete this Building Guide by filling in the blanks on page two and three, and
indicating which construction details will be used.
2 Prnvide a floor Plan (site plan) showing dimensions of your project or addition
and its relationsliip to existing buildings or structures on the property and the distance
to existing property lines.
3 Fill out a building permit application.
The majority of permit applications are
processed with little delay. The submitted
documents will help determine if the
project is in compliance with building
safety codes, zoning ordinances and other
applicable laws.

To Whom It May Concem:
We observed a foundation wall crack at the Southwest basement window. The crack varied in width
from about 3/8 inch to 5/8 inch and extended roughly vertically from the bottom of the basement
window to below the basement slab. The crack extended through the thickness of the wall. We
observed about a 1/8 inch displacement between the vertical faces of the wall on each side of the crack,
and no displacement was observed on the horizontal face of the wall. As the crack is too wide for
structural epoxy, we recommend bolting a C10x15.3, 6 feet long, to the Foundation wall with 5/8"
diameter by 41/z inch long expansion anchors, spaced at 12 inches on center. Additionally the crack
should be sealed with Xypex Patch `N Plug hydraulic cement compound to reduce the potential for
future water infiltration. To conceal the flanges of the installed channel, we recommend that the entire
south facing foundation wall be funed out with 2x framing material up to a minimum of 3 inches.
Additionally, we observed up to 1'/z inches of slab heave in the southwest corner of the basement.
Based on the observed construction, this is a non-structural slab on grade. Therefore this is not a
structurai concern. For aesthetic purposes, we recommend placing self leveling concrete at this
location.

placed below the City of Wheat Ridge frost depth requirements of 30 inches. The caissons are 10
inches in diameter, vary in depth below grade between 32 and 36 inches, and have been reinforced
with (3)#4 reinforcing bars the entire length of the caisson.
