Dear Keith,
At your request, we recently observed the building at 8035 West 44ffi Street, located in
Wheatridge, Colorado. The purpose of our observation was to observe the structural
condition of an area of the building near the front dock doors, as a truck recently struck the
wall near the front dock doors, and to make any recommendations concerning its repair.
The existing building was built in 1970s and is a single-story structure wiYh concrete masonry
exterior walls and a wood roof structure, and faces south. Please note that we performed a
visual walk-through observation only; we did not remove finish materials, nor did we
perform calculations. Our observations and comments are in the areas of structural
engineering and structurally related concerns only. Pictures were taken and are available
upon request.
The exterior front dock wall, between the two dock doors, appears to be in danger of
collapse. Our observation revealed that the exisring block in this area is 4"x6"x16" block and
has #5 reinforcing bars in the center of the wall @ 16" o.c., approximately. Our observation
also revealed that there aze several masonry blocks in this wall that have significantly cracked
or shifted due to the impact of the truck. It is our understanding that you have located a
similar block to the existing block and will use that in the repair of the wall. Therefore, we
recommend the following:
1) Shore the existing roof structure in the area of work. Shore the existing lintels
over the dock doors. Leave all shoring in place until all work is completed and
masonry assembly has cured.
2) Remove all the blocks formmg the thin wall between the dock doors, taking care
to leave 3'-0" minimum of the #5 reinforcing bars from the foundation up and
from the wall above below. Remove any damaged blocks in the adjacent areas as
we1L Remove any other blocks necessary to create the visual appearance of the
area required by the owner.

3) Rebuild the walls: Place new masonry blocks (Pm of the assembly = 1500 psi or
greater) with #5 reinforcing bars centered in grouted cells; spacing of bars and
grouted cells to match the spacing of the existing #5 bars. New reinforcing bars
must lap 30" minimum with the existing reinforcing bars in grouted cells.
This concludes our structural condition review and repair recommendation. If you have any
questions concerning our analysis, conclusions, or recommendations, please do not hesitate to
call. We are available review the work once it is complete.
