Keske of this office reviewed the new roof framing connection of beam to roof trusses at the project referenced above. A 2x4 plate was placed on the steel beam with #8 tek screws at 16" o.c. The tension capacity of the screw is at least 330 Ibs, the shear capacity of the screw is at least 235 Ibs, based on 12 gage metal. These capacities are greater for 3/16" metal thickness, and are also greater than the loads of hurricane clips. Therefore the connection capacity of 2x4 plate to beam is greater than the connection capacity of hurricane clip, and is judged to be adequate.
