6. The issuance of a permit or the approval of drawings and specifications shall not be construed to be a permit for, nor
an approval of, any violation of the provisions of the building codes or any other ordinance, law, rule or regulation.

Moisture GuardT" is used to protect roof decks from water backup of ice dams
oT wind-blown rain for asphalt shingles, slate, tile, cedar shake or metal roofs. It is
appropriate for use on eaves, rakes, ridges, hips, flashing and valleys.
■ Limitdtions. Moisture Guard must not be left permanently exposed to sunlight.
It must be covered by the shingles. Because Moisture Guard is a vapor barrier, space
under the areas on which it is applied must be properly ventilated.
B Contpositiott and Materials. Moisture Guard uses a polyethylene plastic
surface with a modified bitumen coating and a self-adhesive backing with a silicone
coated release sheet.

other protrusions from deck. Existing roofs-remove all shingles, roofing felt and nails
from the deck area. Sweep thoroughly to remove any dust and dirt.
Tem erature: A p1y Moisture Guard only in fair weather when air and surface temper-
ature are above 40°F.
Membrane Application: Ice Dam Protection-Cut the membrane into 10 to 15 foot
lengths and re-roll. Peel back 1 to 2 feet of release paper, align the membrane on the
lower edge of the roof and place the first 1 to 2 feet. Pull the release paper under the
membrane and continue to peel it from the membrane. Press the membrane in place.
Roll lower edges firmly with a wallpaper or other handroller. For ice dam protection,
Moisture Guard must be applied to reach a point above the highest expected level of',
ice dams. (Minimum application at least to a height 12 inchesbeyond the interior wall
lineJ All ends and edges must be overlapped a mmimum of 31 /2 inches. Do not fold
membrane onto an exposed face of the roof edge.
Valley and Ridge Application-Cut the membrane into 4 to 6 foot lengths. Peel the
release paper, center tlie sheet over the valley or ridge, drape and press it in place working
from the center of the valley or ridge outward in each direction. For valleys, apply mem-
brane starting at the low pomt and working upwards. Overlap all sheets a mirumum of
3 1 /2 inches.
