The purpose of this site visit was to observe inadequately supported roof framing discovered during demolition for a proposed remodel. The roof framing of the home was observed to have been constructed to bear on the center w v of the home. The center wall of the home was observed to bear on the typical floor ftrami I' where no additional foundation or framing elements existed. A frame wall was observed to ha il been installed beneath this location presumably to prevent failure of the roof framing. The fra wall was observed to have been installed without an appropriate foundation system. McGourty Engineering recommended the hon-wowner repair the structurally deficient roof support by installation of a supplemental beam in the attic space. The subject frarne wall can be removed or may remain following this repair, McGourty Engineering evaluated the roof loading as well as the basement layout and developed the following design: Supplemental beam in the attic: 1.9E LVL by Truss Joist Corporation or equivalent. * Beam to span 14'-0" R.O. to prevent new posts in center of basement area, * Beam members to be connected by installation of (3) rows of 10d nails, columns installed @ 12" O.C. each side, offset by 6" — per manufacturers recommended connection specifications. * Beam support to be provided by 3" schedule 40 structural steel posts on either end.
