The I ity Council Stujy Session was called to order by Mayor Dan Wilde at 7 00 p m Councilmembers present Vance Edwards, .Jean D Fields, hen Siler, Rae Jean Behm, Claujia ~orth, Tony Solano, Donald Eafanti and Dennis Hall were absent Also present ~ity Clerk, Wanda Sang, ~ity Administrator, Robert Mijdaugh, ~ity Attorney, Kathryn Schroeder, staff, and interested citizens The City Council previously votej to ~ave public comment by t~e citizens at t~is meeting rtem 1 Discussion on "Day Care " Susan Seeds handed out a sample ordinance on Day Care She stated that she went through the ordinances from state of Washington, State Statutes and also looked through the City of Wheat Ridge Code of Laws, and drafted a general ordinance that would apply to any Day Care located in Wheat Ridge Kenneth Lamkin thanked Council for allowing public comment and ,discussion, and statEd t~at he sensps therp is a neej for day care within the City of ~heat Riige, but believes that it woulj be important to actually ~ave the demographic data available to perusp t~at woulj indicate how many ohildren there are within the City and the availability of day care rt seems t~at there are a lot of people outsije of the City that are utilizing services within Wheat Ridge Joan Smith, Director of Family First Resource and Referral, Red Rocks Community College, presented her background and expertise in placing families in adult day care She stated that t~ey are a non-profit auxilliary organization of Red Rocks Community ~ollege Red Rocks Community College supports them by giving them space, they are not State- funded Susan vlalker...LSenior Resource Center, shared her expertise on Adult Day care Jhyree Burkpile, stated and made the point that Day Care Centers for children are businesses and do have an impact on residential neighbor- hoods Janice Jensen, concurred with previous speakers and wishes to see guidelines developed that are comprehensive and concise for applicants STUDY SEssrON MrNUT~S JUNE 20, 1994 PAGE -2- Norman Burkpile, concurred with the previous speakers and asked that the Community Development Department come up with a Comprehensive Plan specifically addressing Day Care which encompasses the w~ole city There was 3-3 tie vote for staff to draft an ordinance including the suggestions and concerns expressed by the speakers to cover a comprehensive plan on day care Mayor hilde broke the tie by voting no t'1eeting adJol1rned at 9 33 p m ~d~------- Wanda Sang, Clty Clel~
