HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/10/2003 @~lITI @ 0 CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO November 10,2003 David Schneider, Council President, explained that Mayor Cerveny was ill and that the Council Rules provide that the Mayor pro tem will conduct the meeting or in his absence the Council President. Mr Schneider will chair the meeting tonight. He stated that the order of events this evening would be as follows Oath of Office for newly elected officials Citizens' Right to speak Election of Council President and Mayor pro tem Adjournment to the Lobby for refreshments and a chance to talk to newly elected officials Councilmembers Dean Gokey, David Schneider and Lena Rotola presented former City Clerk, Wanda Sang, with a crystal vase in appreciation of her service to the City as City Clerk. OATH OF OFFICE FOR NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS Chief Judge of the City of Wheat Ridge, Christopher Randall, administered the Oath of Office to Pam Anderson, City Clerk Mary Cavarra, City Treasurer Karen Berry, Councilmember, District I Wanda Sang, Councilmember District II Karen Adams, Councilmember District III Larry Schulz, Councilmember District IV The Regular City Council Meeting was called to order by Council President Schneider at 7 10 P m Councilmembers present: Jerry DiTullio, Karen Berry, Dean Gokey, Wanda Sang, David Schneider Karen Adams, Lena Rotola, and Larry Schulz. Also present: City Clerk, Pam Anderson City Manager Randy Young City Attorney, Gerald Dahl, Director of Community Development, Alan White, Director of Public Works, Tim Paranto, Director of Parks Joyce Manwaring, Director of Administrative Services Patrick Goff; staff' and interested citizens - CITY COUNCIL MINUTES November 10, 2003 Page -2- CITIZENS' RIGHT TO SPEAK. Charles Durbin, 3703 Ames Street, congratulated the newly elected officials and made them aware of the continued problem with the proposed Walgreens at 38th and Sheridan On October 28, Scott Wesley presented a petition with 242 signatures opposed to the proposal The petition was in objection to the proposal at 38th and Sheridan for a Walgreens The existing businesses that have been there for decades should remain This petition was signed not only by neighbors, but also citizens in all districts 97% of the people they talked to were opposed to this proposal and signed the petition He does not believe the Council heard what they were saying The Council, by a vote of 5-3 passed Resolution 29-2003 and 30-2003 without having real financial figures on paper to go on There are still 3 Councilmembers here who voted on these Resolutions who could correct that mistake tonight. Anyone of the three could change their mind and rescind those Resolutions This would be the most prudent thing the Council could do Cheri Jahn 3580 High Court, came to help celebrate She congratulated the elected officials on their victories and some great campaigns run She reminisced about how it was like to be first elected as a House District 24 Representative She advised to always, no matter what, represent from your heart and conscience the citizens and the businesses and the constituents from your district. You will make some really popular votes and some really unpopular votes But no matter what, you have to stand in your truth and you have to do what your heart and your gut and your soul tells you to do ELECTION OF COUNCIL PRESIDENT Motion by Mr DiTullio to appoint Wanda Sang as Council President for the upcoming year; seconded by Mr Gokey; carried 8-0 ELECTION OF MAYOR PRO TEM Motion by Mr DiTullio appoint David Schneider as Mayor pro tern for the upcoming year; seconded by Mrs Rotola, carried 8-0 Meeting adjourned at 7 20 P m , ( .) \' {L,ti i ("". \ l'uI.!
