It is my understanding that the need for structural assessment is due to plans to remove interior bearing walls as part of a kitchen renovation. Per our inspection, it appears that the recommended modifications were performed in general conformance with the specifications and recommendations supplied in our report dated July 22, 2015. In particular, the south set of diagonal braces in the attic above the kitchen were to remain and were to bear on the column composed of three (3) 2x4s at the comer of the existing walls below. The walls are to be removed and the column is to remain to support the south set of diagonal braces as well as the beam that bears on this same column. The present framing in this area meets with my approval. At the north set of diagonal braces in the attic above the kitchen, the east brace is to remain and bear on the existing column composed of three (3) 2x4s at the corner of the existing walls below. The west diagonal brace was to be removed and replaced such that the top of the brace is located where the original brace was, and the bottom of the brace bears at the same location as the bottom of the east diagonal brace. The walls beneath the west brace and the walls beneath the east brace can be removed and the existing column composed of three (3) 2x4s is to remain to support the north set of diagonal brace. The present framing in this area meets with my approval.
