HomeMy WebLinkAboutSSNotes 111907STUDY SESSION NOTES CITY COUNCIL MEETING CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO 7500 WEST 29TH AVENUE, MUNICIPAL BUILDING November 19, 2007 6:30 p.m. Mayor DiTullio called the Study Session to order at 6:30 p.m. Council Members present: Karen Adams; Dean Gokey, Terry Womble, Mike Stites, Karen Berry, Wanda Sang, Lena Rotola; Larry Schulz; Council Member elect Tracy Langworthy; Deputy City Clerk, Christa Jones; City Manager, Randy Young; Chief of Police, Dan Brennan; Director of Community Development, Ken Johnstone; Senior Planner, Sally Payne; Economic Development Specialist Ryan Stachelski; City Attorney, Jerry Dahl. Item 1. Staff Reports Democratic National Convention Chief Brennan presented the staff report (attached to this packet). Item 2. Outside Agency Reports Larry Schulz reported on his trip to NLC in New Orleans. He attended a workshop on budgeting and public involvement in City budgeting. He also toured the levies and neighborhoods. Mayor DiTullio distributed memos from the Senior Resource Center. One is asking for $10,000 for operation for 2008, the other is requesting $100,000 for a new building at 32nd & Chase. Item 3. Discussion of Northwest Subarea Plan Implementation. Ken Johnstone gave power point presentation. Council questions and discussion followed. Ms. Berry asked for consensus to implement plan as previously discussed in memos and for staff to bring back recommendations regarding height and density and this come to Council at the last study session in January. Consensus was 8 in favor. Mr. Dahl updated Council on situation regarding the Jolly Rancher property. They are considering large format retail and are wondering what Councils’ reaction is. Council wants transit oriented development. Meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m. Christa Jones, Deputy City Clerk
