HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-15-2008STUDY SESSION NOTES CITY COUNCIL MEETING CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO City Council Chambers 7500 W. 29th Ave. September 15. 2008 Mayor Jerry DiTullio called the Study Session to order at 6:31 p.m. Council Members present: Karen Berry, Karen Adams, Dean Gokey, Terry Womble, Wanda Sang, Mike Stites, Lena Rotola and Tracy Langworthy. Also present: City Clerk, Michael Snow; City Treasurer, Larry Schulz; City Manager, Randy Young; Deputy City Manager, Patrick Goff; Community Development Director, Kenneth Johnstone; Parks and Recreation Director, Joyce Manwaring; Assistant to the City Manager, Heather Geyer; and interested citizens. Staff Reports: Comprehensive Plan Renewal Process. Mr. Johnstone briefed Council of Staffs plan to form a Citizen Committee to guide the Comprehensive Plan Renewal process in the coming year. The committee will be composed of 20 or fewer members from the community, will meet approximately 6 times over the year of the Renewal Process and will be advised by a Market Consultant service. Staff wishes to announce the openings on this committee through the City's Connection Newsletter to attract members from a variety of perspectives, and will likely tap into the Citizen Academy graduates, Planning Commission and other existing Boards and Commissions for candidates. Appointments to the committee will be made by the Mayor. Other. Karen Adams presented Council a letter (included in this packet) from Preston Gibson to the Jefferson Economic Council with position statements on several of the state ballot issues on the November ballot. Mrs. Adams asked Council to consider discussing the City taking position on any of those ballot items at the coming Council meeting. Item 1. 2009 Proposed Strategic Plan - June Ramos and Management Team June Ramos led Council through a review of the draft Five Strategic Goals that were the product of Council's June 7th, 2008 Strategic Planning meeting. Discussion continued to further define the key aspects, strategies and objectives of the Priority Projects around these goals. Proposed changes will be updated to the document and finalized in the Strategic Plan. Mayor DiTullio adjourned the Study Session at 7:38pm Michael Snow, City Clerk
