HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/05/2009STUDY SESSION NOTES CITY COUNCIL MEETING CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO 7500 WEST 29TH AVENUE, MUNICIPAL BUILDING January 5, 2009 Mayor Jerry DiTullio called the Study Session to order at 6:33 p.m. Council Members present: Karen Adams, Karen Berry, Dean Gokey, Tracy Langworthy, Wanda Sang, Mike Stites, Lena Rotola and Terry Womble. Members of the Planning Commission in attendance: Anne Brinkman; Davis Reinhard; Steve Timms; James Chilvers; Richard Matthews; Kim Stewart; and John Dwyer. Also present: City Clerk, Michael Snow; City Treasurer, Larry Schulz; City Manager, Randy Young; Director of Public Works, Tim Paranto; Chief of Police, Dan Brennan; Senior Planner, Sally Payne; Staff and interested citizens. Staff Reports A. Off Street Parking Chief Brennan led a discussion with Council on issues identified in the City code regarding the off-street parking of vehicles in residential areas of the City. A majority of Council expressed desire for Staff to bring the proposed Ordinance to a subsequent Study Session for further discussion of the issues revealed. Mr. Young provided Council copies of a memo from Chief Brennan to the Council and Mayor in response to the veto of Ordinance #1425, Exotic Animal Code Revision (included in this packet). Item 1. Courtesy Bus Bench Program Mr. Paranto presented Council a summary of the regulations and conditions of the City's current Bus Bench and Staff proposals for an improved Program. A majority of Council expressed support for Staff to draft an Ordinance to implement this new program with some minor changes suggested by Council. Joint Meeting with the Planning Commission on Comprehensive Plan Ben Herman and Lesli Ellis from Clarion Associates provided the Council and Planning Commission members an overview of the project and process to date for the Comprehensive Plan Update effort, titled Envision Wheat Ridge. Council and Planning Commission members provided feedback on key issues and the Community Participation Plan. The Council reached consensus for Staff to begin mid-level priority work on an Ordinance establishing a new Mixed-Use Zone District. Meeting adjourned at 9:09pm. Michael Snow, City Clerk
