The existing roof support deck was constructed of 2"x4" trusses on 24 -inch centers. Roof pitch is approximately 6:12 (field verify). I was requested to evaluate if the existing roof framing would be adequate to carry the additional load due to the proposed solar panel installation. The combined Silfab SLA -M-285 Watts Modules and racking system weigh approximately 3 pounds per square foot (psf). Unirac SolarMount rails and L -bracket with Uniarc flat flashings will be used to attach the solar panels to the roof by using minimum 5/16" x 31/2" stainless steel lag bolts, 4 -ft max spans, staggered at each row. For the location of the project site, City of Wheat Ridge has adopted the International Building Codes, 2012 Edition as the City's Building Codes; design wind speed is 105 mph, Category II (3 -seconds gust), Exposure "c" roof snow load is 35 psf. In my opinion, the existing roof structure is co "dereto'be a6.Oj 6VA'•. }' carry the additional load due to the proposed solar panel installation without remedial structural measures.
