Draft Stop General Notes
2012 IRC Section 302.11 states: "Flreblocking. In combustible
construction, flreblocking shall be provided to cut off all concealed
draft openings (both vertical and horizontal) and to form an effective
fire barrier between stories, and between a top story and the roof
space. Flreblocking shall be provided in wood -frame construction In
the following locations:
I, In concealed spaces of stud walls and partitions, Including furred
spaces and parallel rows of etude or staggered studs, as follows:
1.1 vertically at the telling and floor levels.
1.2 Horizontally at Intervals not exceeding 10 feet (3048 mm).
2. At all Interconnections between concealed vertical and horizontal
spaces such as occur at soffits, drop cellinga and cove cellings.
3. In concealed spaces between stair stringers at the top and bottom
of the run. Enclosed spaces under stairs shall comply with Section
R302.1.
4. At openings around vents, pipes, ducts, cables and wires at telling
and
floor level, with an approved material to resist the free passage of
flame
and products of combustion. The material filling this annular apace
shall not
be required to meet the ASTM E 136 requirements.
5. For the Flreblocking of chlmneys and fireplaces, see Section
R1003,1S.
6. Flreblocking of cornices of a two-famlly dwelling le required at the
Ibis of
dwelling unit separation."
2012 IRC Section 302.11.1 states, "Flreblocking materials. Except as
provided
In Section R302.11, Item 4, fireblocking shall consist of the following
materials:
1, two -Inch (51 mm) nominal lumber.
2. Two thicknesses of I -Inch (25.4 mm) nominal lumber with broken lap
Joints.
3. One thickness of 23/32 -Inch (18.3 mm) wood structural panels with
Joints backed
by 23/32 -Inch (18.3 mm) wood structural panels.
4. One thickness of 3/4 -Inch 119,1 mm) particleboard with Joints
backed by 3/4 -Inch
(19.1 mm) particleboard.
5. One -half -Inch (12.1 mm) gypsum board,
6. One -quarter -Inch (6.4 mm) cement -based mlllboard.
1, Batts or blankets of mineral wool or glass fiber or other approved
materials
installed in such a manner as to be securely retained In place.
8. Cellulose Insulation installed as tested for the specific application.'

Analysis of discussion and recommendation
Basad on the fact that foam products which are not tested to comply
with ASTM E814
or ANSI/UL 1415 are not approved fire block material, the MAG
Bul (ding Codes
Committee consensus Is to not allow the use of foam products that are
not listed as such
to maintain the firablocking integrity required In the 2012 IRC Section
302.11.2.

Foundation Construction Review for New Single -Family Residence located at
2625 Pierce Street, Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80214
Dear Rick:
Per your request, CES Consultants, LLC (CES) has reviewed the installation of the wood
farming support in the garage wall for the new W 10x68 Upper Floor Steel I -Beam
located in the garage area
The new beam was required to be installed due to a mistaken installation of the original
W 10x68 Steel I -Beam. The new beam was installed to sit on top of the double 2x4 rap
plate of the garage with a 2x4 stud pack under the beam that carries the load to the
foundation.
It is CES's Professional Engineering determination that the installation of the new Steel
I -Beam is structurally sound and no other connection of the I -Beam to the two (2) top
plates is required to secure the beam.
This letter was prepared for the exclusive use of our client and is not intended for any
other purpose. Our conclusions nor based on the information made available to us at this
time. Should additional information become available, we reserve the right to determine
the impact- if any, of the new information on our opinions and conclusions; and to revise
our opinions and conclusions if necessary and warranted by the discovery of additional

construction of the foundation footings for the new single-family duplex residence
located at 2625 Pierce Street, Wheat Ridge, Colorado (Permit #202100865):
Sept 9h - The placement of the foundation footing steel was reviewed and
found to be installed per the details provided on the approved Final
Structural Plans prepared by CES Consultants, LLC, dated August
25, 2021.
This letter was prepared for the exclusive use of our client and is not intended for any
