RESOLUTION NO. 47 Series of 2021
TITLE: A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO IN SUPPORT OF JOINING COLORADO COMMUNITIES FOR CLIMATE ACTION
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge City Council recognizes the significant climate impacts to our community and many others that are already taking place, and the likelihood that these impacts will continue to intensify in the coming years, including additional infrastructure costs, health impacts to community members, economic impacts to businesses,
water supply and water quality challenges, and others; and
WHEREAS, Sustainable Wheat Ridge, a resident-led advisory committee, created a Sustainability Action Plan, and presented that plan to City Council in June 2018 to improve the six focus areas as determined by City Council: Energy Efficiency & Green Building,
Renewable Energy, Water, Transportation, Solid Waste & Recycling, and Communications & Engagement; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that local policies and local action, while critical, will not alone be sufficient to meet our own climate, energy, and sustainability goals,
nor will they alone be sufficient to reduce the severity of climate change and its impacts to our community; and
WHEREAS, Colorado Communities for Climate Action (CC4CA) was established to further the adoption of federal and state policies that will: a) strengthen statewide and federal
policies impacting greenhouse gas emissions in Colorado; and b) provide local governments in Colorado with the tools, funding, flexibility, and authority necessary to adopt effective climate protection strategies; and
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge desires to have an effective voice in the
development of statewide energy and greenhouse gas reduction policies.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado:
Section 1. That the City of Wheat Ridge will join Colorado Communities for Climate Action and expresses support for the Colorado Communities for Climate Action Policy Statement adopted by the CC4CA Board of Directors on June 4, 2021.
DONE AND RESOLVED THIS 27th DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2021.
