First Regular Council Meeting
First Regular Session of the Wheat Ridge City Council was
called to order at 1:15 PM, August 20, 1969. by Mayor
Albert E. Anderson. The meeting took place immediately
following the ceremony in which City Orricials were sworn
into office by JUdge Floyd C. Johnson.
Council members attending: Robert Eckhardt, Ray C. Pepe,
Robert G. Howard, Calvin O. Hulsey, Jack Bramble and Dana
Bowling .
Also attending were: Albert E. Anderson, ~ayor, Louise F.
Turner, Clerk and one member of the press.
Mr. Anderson stated that the council is open to applications
for the following positions: City Attorney, Police Chief,
Police Orficers, Health Commissioner, City Engineer, Super-
intendent of Streets. Superintendent of Water and Sewer,
and Police I~gistrate.
Council members can be appointed to some positions. Whe-
ther or not a council member can be appointed to the posi-
tion of Police Chief will depend on an opinion of the City
Attorney - pointing up the fact that one of the first needs
is the appointment of a City Attorney.
r~. Eckhardt asked if legal posting is necessary for busi-
ness meetings and the section of the statute was read
which states only - that the council shall determine the
time and place for holding meetings.
lVlotion by Nr. Bramble: A meeting wil1 be held Thursday
evening August 21 and after such meeting the Regular Busi-
ness f~etings of the Council will be TueSdays at 7:30 PM.
Motion was seconded and carried unanimously. (Question
was asked as to special meetings if necessary and answered
in that the statutes allow for special meetings to be set
up by the counc il.)
The following agenda i'TaS set up for Thursday evening:
1 Discussion of Applications received for offices
2 Election of Temporary President of Council
3 Selection of Mayor Pro Tem
4 1969 BUdget
I~. Eckhardt, in the matter of planning and zoning, stated
the pOSSibility of adopting the County Resolution; and the
raster Plan with the Council to pass judgement. He also
mentioned that it is possible to contract with State,
County or private Consultants in the matter of planning
and zoning. Since three rezonings are presently cOming up
on property within Wheat Ridge, he suggested that a letter
be written to the County Planning Commission requesting
that all such cases be tabled; and that the Wheat Ridge
City Council be allowed to meet with the Planning Commis-
sion at its next executive meeting on August 28. The
letter will be written and delivered personally by Mr.
Eckhardt. A carbon copy will go to the County Commission-
ers.
Motion by I~. Bramble: All attorneys interested in the
position of City Attorney should be contacted so that, ir
possible, an answer might be forthcoming by next TueSday's
meeting. Motion was seconded and carried unanimously
carried.
Motion ror adjournment by rx. Bramble was seconded and
carried. Meeting was adjourned at 2:40 PM.
