October 24, 1969
The second continuation of the eleventh regular meeting was called to
order at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor pro tem Dana Dowling. Others attending were
Aldermen Jack Bramble, Robert Howard, Calvin Hulsey, and Robert Eckhardt,
Clerk Louise Turner, Treasurer James Malone, City Attorney Maurice Fox,
Walter Johnson and citizens.
Ordinance #11, the Wheat Ridge Zoning Ordinance, was introduced by
Alderman Eckhardt and the title read by the Clerk. ~otion was made by
Alderman Eckhardt that the reading of the rest of the ordinance be
dispensed with. Motion was seconded by Alderman Hulsey and passed 5-0.
Motion was made by Alderman Hulsey and seconded by Alderman Howard that
the Council adopt Wheat Ridge Ordinance #t~ and that it be published in
the Arvada Citizen and posted in six public places.
--The question was asked if publication of this lengthy ordinance is
necessary and the attorney's answer was "yes". Alderman Eckhardt
added that it is extremely important not to have loopholes that might
be challenged later.
--The question was asked when an amendment would be in order. Howard
Buchanan of the Zoning Commission stated he would recommend that they
be made after the ordinance is in effect and when time can be allowed
for study.
Council was polled and motion to pass Ordinance #l~ on first reading
passed 5-0.
Renewal of a 3.2 Beer Carry-out License at the Tenneco Store on 32nd
and Youngfield was tabled for further study on the motion of Alderman
Hulsey, which was seconded by Alderman Eckhardt and passed 5-0.
The police report indicated that problems have existed at the
location with beer having been bought by legal aged persons but
resold to under aged persons just outside and consummed on the
premisis; also with fake identifications. Management was advised
not to honor any temporary or out of state drivers licenses.
Police report indicated that no problems or any kind existed at the Del
Farm Store at 44th and Upham. Motion was made by Alderman Howard and
seconded by Alderman Hulsey that Council approve the renewal of a 3.2
Beer Carry-out License at Del Farm. Motion passed 4-0 with Alderman
Bramble abstaining.
Walter Johnson suggested that money approved for the tree limb project
be appropriated. It was indicated that writing checks is preferable
to sending employees to the bank with warrants. Attorney Fox stated that
the matter could be continued at the next meeting.
In answer to a request from residents in the southeast corner of the City
that a posting be made in their area, the Council recommended that notices
be posted at Columbia Heights School and that posting in the Wheat Ridge
Fire Department,which is not far from the Library, be discontinued.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
