HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/27/1970 MINUTES January 27, 1970 The twenty-sixth regular meeting of the Wheat Ridge City Council was called to order at 7390 West 38 Avenue at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Albert E. Anderson in the Wheat Ridge Council Room. Aldermen attending were: Dana Bowling, Jack W. Bramble, Ray C. Pepe, Joseph Donaldson, Calvin Hulsey and Robert Howard. Also attending were Mayor Anderson, Clerk Louise Turner, City Attorney Maurice Fox, Administrator Walter Johnson, Attorney Thomas Carney representing applicants for a Liquor License at 4111 Kipling Street, Sheriff Harold Bray and interested citizens. Alderman Hulsey explained his "nay" vote at the previous meeting on January 22, 1970 on the motion to table the matter of the Major Thoroughfare Plan. He stated that he had understood the motion to include the words "for six months." Motion was made by Alderman Bowliny "That a 3-way liquor license for Villa DIEste at 4111 Kipling Street be approved for the foll- owing reasons: 1. The needs of the neighborhood are not being met. 2. The vast majority of the citizens who voiced an opinion were in favor of the granting of the license." Motion was seconded by Alderman Pepe and passed 5-1 with Alderman Howard noting "nay." Attorney Maurice Fox clarified the status of the license as being a license for the building specified at this location. It is not a "Floating License" and if the building is not built, the license will die. Sheriff Bray announced the Commissioners decision regarding the Wheat Ridge and Sheriff's Office Agreement. He presented copies of the resolution which outlined their decision which turned down the proposed agreement. He stated that in his opinion the deci- sion was not based "on a point of law" but based "on a personal matter." Mayor Amderson commented that the "tragedy is of dollars for the people of Wheat Ridge. Motion passed 5-0 with Alderman Hulsey abstaining. Preliminary Hearing for the application for change of ownership of the Wheat Ridge Liquor Store was held. Applicants were George J. Palaze, Annette Palaze, and Salvatore De Carlo. Motion was made by Alderman Bramble and seconded by Alderman < / Bowling "that a Public Hearing be set for 7:30 p.m. on February 24, 1970 at 7390 West 38 Avenue for the applicants." Motion passed 5-0. Mr. Clyde Hobbs, Assistant City Engineer, reported that the low bid on a drafting table and two map files of five drawers each was $462.37 and was submitted by Charles Bruning. Motion was made by Alderman Bramble "that Council approve purchase of a drafting table and two map files of five drawers each for the sum of $452.37." Motion was seconded by Alderman Howard and passed 5-0. Mr. Hobbs reported that the City Truck will arrive from Inter- national on March 1, 1970 and that International made arrangements for Wheat Ridge to have use of a truck until then, at the rate of $17. per day. It was announced that license plates will not be sold in Wheat Ridge. Rezoning cases WZ-70-8 and WZ-70-9 will be heard by the Council on February 3, 1970.
