HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/24/1970 MINUTES February 24, 1970 A Public Hearing followed by the thirtieth regular meeting of the Wheat Ridge City Co~ncil was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Albert E. Anderson ln the Wheat Ridge Council meeting room at 7390 West 38 Avenue. Aldermen present were: Ray C. Pepe, Dana L. Bowling, Robert Howard, Joseph Donaldson and Calvin Hulsey. Jack W. Bramble was absent. Also attending were Mayor Anderson, Clerk Louise Turner, Attorney Maurice Fox, Administrator Walter Johnson, Planning Director James Mier, attorneys and applicants involved in liquor and rezoining hearings and citizens. Case WZ-69-10 had requested for a service Case previously presented by Attorney Thomas Carney a change from R-3 to R-C at 41 Avenue and Sheridan stationo Applicants were Donald Maher et ale Motion was made by Alderman Donaldson IIthat the zoning requested in WZ-69-l0 be denied because if granted it would represent spot zoning and would create additional traffic hazards.1I Motion was seconded by Alderman Howard and passed 4-1 with Alderman Hulsey voting IInay.1I Alderman Bramble was absent, and the rezoning was denied. Case WZ-69-12 Attorney Maurice Fox recommended that the case be continued and that re-posting be mandatory with the reason being that neither an attorney nor property owner was present. Applicant William McBride agreed to the continuation. Motion was made by Alderman Pepe IIthat Council continue Case Wz-69-12 to March 17, 1970 and that re-posting be required.1I Motion was seconded by Alderman Bowling and passed 5-0. Attorney Howard Miller represented Applicants George J. Palaze, Annette Palaze and Salvatore De Carlo who form Wheatridge Liquors, Company in a request for the transfer of the package liquor license of Wheatridge Liquors at 5808 West 38 Avenue. Proceedings were recorded by Court Reporter Del Bohling. Motion was made by Alderman Hulsey IIthat the transfer of package liquor license to Wheatridge Liquors, Company be approved.1I Motion was seconded by Alderman Donaldson and passed 5-0. Ordinance r~o. 25 weB brought up.Motion was made by Alderman Pepe I{het U~dlnB~~o., 25.,setting up a Wheat Ridge Police Department be brought up for second reading and the title read.1I Motion was seconded by Alderman Bowling and passed 5-0. The title of Ordinance No. 25 was read and a Motion was made by Alderman Pepe "that the reading of the balance of the Ordinance be dispensed with.1I Motion was seconded by Alderman Bowling and passed 5-0. Motion was made by Alderman Howard and seconded by Alderman Bowling IIthat Council adopt Ordinance No. 25 on second and final reading and that it be published and posted.1I Motion passed 5-0. Subdivision Plat of Applewood Knolls-Eleventh Filing Motion was made by Alderman Bowling and seconded by Alderman Pepe IIthat a motion made February 17, 1970 to table the Platting for two weeks be withdrawn.1I Motion passed 5-0. ..., Motion was made by Alderman Dowling "that the Subdivision Plat of Applewood Knolls Eleventh Filing be approved as previously presented to Council." Motion was seconded by Alderman Donaldson and passed 5-0. Ordinance No. 27 calling for the vacation of Duena Vista Avenue was introduced for first reading by Alderman Howard and read. Attorney Maurice Fox stated that the fees for vacations should be set by resolution preceeding action on the vacation in question. Motion was made by Alderman Bowling and seconded by Alderman Pepe "that Ordinance No. 27 be tabled until Thursday, February 26, 1970 to iron out the problems brought up." Motion passed 5-0. The widening of Highway 72 also knnwn as Ward Road was discussed. Aldermen Hulsey and Donaldson had attended a Public Hearing on Highway 72 on February 20, 1970. Any Council action taken within ten days is to become part of the record of that meeting. Motion was made by Alderman Donaldson and seconded by Alderman Hulsey "that Council go on record as approving the widening of Highway No. 72 subject to the installations of proper railroad signals and curb and gutter at state expense." Alderman Donaldson amended the motion to read "that Council go on record as approving the Widening of Highway 72." The second did not approve the amendment, so the motion stood as first stated. Motion passed 4-0 with Alderman Bowling abstaining. Alderman Bramble was absent. The Clerk was directed to send a certified copy of the motion to the State Highway Department to become a part of the February 20, 1970 hearing record. Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Louise F.
