HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/21/1970 MINUTES April 21, 1970 The forty-sixth regular meeting of the Wheat Ridge City Council was called to order at 7 30 p.m. by Mayor Albert E. Anderson in the Council Meeting Room at 7390 West 38 Avenue. Aldermen attending were Ray C. Pepe, Jask W. Bramble, Dana Bowling, Robert Howard, Joseph Donaldson 8nd Calvin Hulsey. Also attending were Mayor Anderson, Deputy Lity Clerk Elise McMillen, City Administrator Walter Johnson, Planning Director James Mier, City Attornev Maurice Fox, Lt. Warren, applicants for rezoning cases and citizens. Case WZ-70-6 requesting a change from A-1 to R-2 at 4590 Independence to build duplexes on Hoyt Street was brcught up for decision. Applicant Earl J. Belding was present. The following Motion was made by Alderman Bowling "I move that Rezoning Case WZ-70-6 requesting zoning from A-1 to R-2 be approved because ~ i&-19w-MRsi-t-y aRd needs a comprehensive plan." Motion was seconded by Alderman Donaldson and passed 5-0 with Alderman Howard abstaining. / / / - Case WZ-7o-2 requesting a change from R~3A to R-3 at 3655 Kipling Street to build apartments was brought up. Representing K & R Development Corp- oration was Ken R. Petch. Also present was owner of the property and president of the corporation Wayne D. Remington of 15050 West 82 Avenue, Golden. It was brought up that the property had been posted impToperly with the wrong date on both signs, and one had been corrected. Attorney Maurice Fox stated the property should be properly posted, and that the property could be reposted for an additional hearing but that the owner's case could be heard tonight, if it was desired by Counsil. The following Motion was made by Alderman Hulsey "I move that Council hear the owner's testimony tonight and that a hearing for additional, and opposing testimony be set for May 12, 1970 after proper publication and posting." Motion was seconded by Alderman Bramble and passed 4-2 with Aldermem Pepe and Howard voting "nay." The applicant stated that R-3A zoning allowed twelve unit apartments but under R-3 zoning eighteen to twenty units would be allowed an8 that the larger unit is economically feasible and allo~Js higher professional management and adequate maintenance; that Kipling Street is in the process of being widened and that low density zoning is not usual along major thoroughfares, and that developed property would bring higher income through taxes. Planning Commission had ruled the case be tabled indefinitely because the owner and the applicant had failed to appear and neighbors had appeared to register protest. The following Motio~ was by Alderman Bramble "I move that Case WZ-70-2 be tabled until May 12, 1970 at 7 30 p.m. at 7390 West 38 Avenue for a further hearing." Motion was seconded by Alderman Bowling and passed 6-0. The following Motion was made by Alderman Bramble "I move that Council grant permission for the hiring of a mechanic at Grade 9 Step A or B or approximately $575.00 per month." Mo~ion was seconded by Alderman Donaldson and passed 6-0. Alderman Bramble stated his reason for the above Motion was because of the money that was spent on maintenance of patrol cars now, and that it would be increased with the purchase of more cars. L It was brought up that several groups had helped in the tree limb removal project last fall and commitments to pay these groups in the form of donations had been made. The following Motion was made by Alderman Bowling "I move that Council approve donatiClns to the following groups for their effort in the tree limb removal project 1. Jefferson High School Exchange Club.........$50.00 2. Jefferson High School Key Club..............$75.00 3. Arapahoe Rescue Patrol......................$75.00." Motion was seconded by Alderman Donaldson and passed 6-0.
