HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/19/1970 MINUTES May 19, 1970 Tha fifty-third ragular maating of the Wheat Ridge City Council was called to order by Mayor Albert E Anderson at 7 30 p.m. in the Council Meeting Room at 7390 West 38 Avanua Aldermen attending wara Dana 8owling, Jack W Bramble, Josaph Donaldson, Robart Howard, Calvin Hulsay and Ray C. Pepe Others attanding were Mayor Anderson, Clerk Couise F Turner, Planning Director James Mier, Finance Officer Walt Granda, and Adminstrator Waltar Johnson. City attornay Maurica Fox, and citizens Minutes of the May 14, 1970 meating were read and approved Rezoning Case WZ-70-10 continuad from May 14, 1970 Applicant Donald Keim had raquested a change from R-1A to proposed R-C1 for the purpose of building a professional offica building. Motion by Alderman Bowling "I propose that the zoning requested in WZ-70-10 be approvad for tha following reasons 1 It was recommended by tha Planning Director 2 It was recommended by the Planning Commission 3 The proposed tends to agraa with the proparty on tha west 4 It tends to be an ideal buffar zone." Motion was seconded by Alderman Donaldson and passed 5-0 with Alderman Hulsey abstaining Bid prices for Police uniforms ware presented by Finance Officer Walter Grande Bid from Joe Alperts was $2948 20 or $148.65 per man, and tha bid from Tuxall was $2417.00 or $120.80 per man Motion by Alderman Howard "I mova that the purchasing departmant be authorized to purchase Police uniforms from Tuxall for twenty men at a price of $2417 00" Motion was sacondad by Alderman Don- aldson Mr Granda was diracted to ask Tuxall for a "firm quote" for one yaar Motion passed 5-0 with Alderman Papa abstaining Ordinance No. 33 was brought up for second consideration and the title raad The Ordinance amends Zoning Ordinance No 11 on setbacks Motion by Alderman Pepa "I mova the title having been raad that the Clark dispensa with the reading of the balance of tha Ordinanca " Motion was saconded by Alderman Bowling and passed 6-0 Motion by Alderman Bowling "I move that Ordinance No. 33 on second reading and that it be publishad and postad." secondad by Alderman Donaldson and passed 6-0 be passed Motion was The status of rezoning applications which have baen withdrawn was discussed The Mayor issued an order to the Planning Diractor that he is not to accept any application which has been before the Commission within one year for tha same zoning classification change A report on solid waste disposal and the recent Solid Waste Confarence was given by Marion Gilreath of Wheatridge Disposal Service A placque was presented to Mr rendered to the City of Wheat and November 1969" during the Gilreath by the Mayor for "services Ridge in its infancy -- October tree limb removal crisis. -2- Motion by Alderman Hulsey "I move that Council appoint Clyde Hobb5 to the Denver Regional Council of Government5' Solid Wa5te Di5po5al Committee" Motion was seconded by Alderman Howard and pa55ed 5-0 Ordinance No 40 e5tabli5hing a Civil Service System for the Police Department wa5 introduced by Alderman Howard and read Motion by Alderman Donaldson "I move that the following amendment be made at the bottom of page 10, change the period after the word Commission and add 'not to exceed $1200 DO per Commi5sioner per year '" Motion was seconded and pa55ed 4-0 with Alderman Pepe ab- staining Motion by Alderman Hulsey "I move that Ordinance No 40 5etting up a Civil Service System for the Police be approved on first read- ing and that it be published in the Arvada Citizen Sentinel and posted in six public place5" Motion was seconded by Alderman Donald50n Alderman Pepe a5ked that the following statement made by him be on record "Gentlemen of the Council, I am not familiar with Civil Service Procedure and what it entail5 in regard to the Police Depart- ment p05ition, 50 I have to ab5tain at the pre5ent time" Council was polled and Motion passed 4-0 with Alderman Pepe abstain- ing and Alderman Bramble not present The following Motion wa5 made by Alderman Pepe ":! Move that pay- ment of up to forty thousand dollar5 ($40,000 00) be paid to Burk and Company from the Wheat Ridge share of the Jefferson County Road and Bridge Fund5, according to voucher5 submitted and approved by the Mayor and the Jeffer50n County Board of Commissioner5."
