HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/21/1970 MINUTES May 21, 1970 The fifty-fourth regular meeting of the Wheat Ridge City Council was called to order at 7 30 P m in the Council Meeting Room at 7390 West 38 Avenue by Mayor Albert E Anderson Aldermen attending were Dana Bowling, Jack Bramble, Joseph Don- aldson, Robert Howard, Calvin Hulsey, and Ray Pepe. Others attending were Mayor Anderson, Clerk Louise Turner, Assis- tant Attorney Henry Nieto, Administrator Walter Johnson, Planning Director James Mier, Sheriff Harold Bray and approximately fifty interested citizens Reverend John Mc Elderry of 6 Hillside Drive discussed the advantages of contracting with the Sheriff for police protection and showed charts of cost comparisons Others speaking in favor of another attempt toward contracting and/or continuing the present system and postponing the hiring of a police chief were Charles Hahn of 4061 Field Drive Arthur Lang of 12420 West 35 Avenue Sheriff Harold Bray William Cornelison of 3570 Nelson hen Hyman of 11676 West 37 Place Harvey holesar of 3737 Garland. Speaking in favor of an independent Wheat Ridge Police Department and hiring a police chief now were William Mc Bride of 4240 Iris Court Nelson Jeanette of 7055 West 45 Avenue Motion by Alderman Bramble "I move that we continue on as in the past, that we not hire a Chief of Police and that we revise the Contract for 1971 and submit it to the Sheriff for 1971." Motion was seconded by Alderman Pepe Council was polled and the vote tied 3-3 with Aldermen Bowling, HOliJard, and Hulsey voting "nay." Mayor Anderson voted "nay" to break the tie and defeat the Motion Motion by Alderman Donaldson "I move thct Resolution No. 63 authorizing the Treasurer to open savings accounts in two savings and loan asso- ciations be introduced and adopted" Motion was seconded by Alderman Pepe and passed 6-0. Motion by Alderman Hulsey "I move that the following people be appointed to the Arborist Board Vernon True to a one year term Myron Nixon to a two year term and Dean Sheeman to a three year term, as specified in Ordinance No 34" Motion was seconded by Alderman Pepe and passed 6-0 Motion by Alderman Bowling "I move that in order to fill a vacancy on the Park Committee and to make replacement for Herbert Fightmaster that Council appoint Robert Hartung of 3922 Harlan to the Park Board " Motion was seconded by Alderman Pepe and passed 6-0.
