HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/04/1970 MINUTES June 4, 1970 The fifty-eighth regular meeting of the Wheat Ridge City Council was called to order at 7 30 P m. in the Council Meeting Room at 7390 West 38 Avenue by Mayor Albert E. Anderson. Aldermen attending were Howard, Calvin Hulsey and absent Dana Bowling, Jack W. Bramble, Robert Joseph Donaldson. Alderman Ray Pepe was Also attending were Mayor Anderson, Clerk Louise F Turner, City Attorney Maurice Fox, City Administrator Walter Johnson, and inter- ested citizens It was announced that applicants for Police Chief for the City of Wheat Ridge had been screened by the Personnel Committee, the Police Powers Committee and an oral examination board made up of five Chiefs of Police from surrounding area cities Mr. Charles Hahn stated that the Police Powers Committee recommended Lt Edward R. Pinson. Mr Rocco Gioso stated that the Personnel Committee recommended Lt. Edward R. Pinson. Chief Ben Roach of Commerce City, speaking for the oral board of review stated that the board had unanimously chosen Lt. Pinson as the best qualified man for the position of Chief of Police. Motion by Alderman Bramble "I move that Council appoint Edward R Pinson as Chief of Police for the City of Wheat Ridge" Motion was seconded by Alderman Donaldson. Mayor Anderson announced that Alderman Bramble, the city's first Chief of Police, had submitted a resignation so that the Motion was in order Motion passed 5-0. Alderman Pepe was not present Resolution No. 68 expressing the appreciation of the Mayor and the City Council to Police Chief Jack Bramble and Jefferson County Sheriff Harold Bray was introduced by Alderman Bowling and read. Motion by Alderman Hulsey "I move that Resolution No. 68 be approved " Motion was seconded by Alderman Donaldson and passed 4-0, with Alderman Bramble abstaining and Alderman Pepe not present. Ordinance No 48 vacating a portion of a street lying in Tracts A and B of Hoyt Subdivision was introduced by Alderman Hulsey Motion by Alderman Bowling "I move that Ordinance No. 48-vacating a portion of a street in Hoyt Subdivision-which was introduced by Alderman Hulsey be passed on first reading and that it be published in the Arvada Citizen Sentinel and posted in six public places" Motion was seconded by Alderman Howard and passed 5-0 Ordinance No. 46 pertaining to a Merit System was brought up for second consideration. Motion by Alderman Donaldson "I move that the following Amendments be made to Ordinance No. 46, based on employee recommendations Delete 4-2 all after twelve months, and add 'When an employee is temporarily assigned to a position having a grade classification higher than the grade he holds, a temporary one-step pay increase in the employee's own grade may be authorized, if recommended by his Supervisors' Insert in 5-1 after 'shall be observed', the following sentence 'When a Holiday falls on Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be observed.'" Motion was seconded by Alderman Bramble -2- and passed 5-0 The title of the Ordinance was read Motion was made by Alderman Donaldson, seconded by Alderman Bowling and passed 5-0 "that the title having been read, the reading of the remainder of Ordinance No. 46 be dispensed with."
