HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/03/1970 MINUTES December 3, 1970 The eighty-ninth regular meeting of the Wheat Ridge City Council was called to order at 7 30 p.m by Mayor pro tem Dana Bowling in the Council Meeting Room at 7390 West 38 Avenue Aldermen present were Mayor pro tem Bowling, Jack Bramble, Calvin Hulsey, Joseph Donaldson and Ray C Pepe. Also present were Clerk Louise Turner, City Attorney Maurice Fox, applicants for a beer license renewal and a new liquor license, and interested citizens Mr Landon Murray was present for the renewal of a 3.2 beer on premises license for Paramount Lanes Motion by Alderman Bramble "I move beer license, Class J2 be renewed." Donaldson and passed 5-0 that Paramount Lanes' 3 2 Motion was seconded by Alderman Application of a 3-way liquor license for Granato's Restaurant and Lounge at 6117 West 38 Avenue came up for decision Motion by Alderman Bramble "I move that a 3-way liquor license for Granato's Restaurant and Lounge be denied for the following reasons 1 The reasonable requirements of the neighborhood for the type of license applied for are being adequately served by six (6) existing outlets of a similar kind, within the one mile radius set as the neighborhood surrounding the proposed outlet 2 That while eight hundred and sixty-five (865) signatures on petitions were presented favoring the proposed outlet, I find that approximately twenty percent of those citizens contacted by Marketing Analysis Association indicated no interest or registered an objection to the license 3 At this location a traffic hazard would be involved with a restaurant serving 180-200 people. 4 The applicant was concerned about the inadequacy of restaurants in the area, but evidence presented seems to indicate a liquor license is required to induce the applicant's business" Motion was seconded by Alderman Donaldson Alderman Pepe stated that he would vote "aye" on the Motion, but only for the first three of Alderman Bramble's reasons. Motion passed 5-1 with Alderman Hulsey voting "nay." The vote by Alderman Howard who was not present, had been left in a sealed envelope in the custody of the Clerk, and was opened and read by Mayor pro tem Bowling.
