ORDINANCE NO. 30.
Series of 1970
TITLE. AN ORDINANCE TO CREATE AND ESTABLISH A STREET NUMBERING
AND NAMING SYSTEM FOR THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCILOF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE,
COLORADO, THAT:
Section 1. Numbers Required. It is the duty of the
owner or occupant of every habitable building in the City of
Wheat Ridge to number such building in accordance with the
provisions of this ordinance and with the numbers assigned by
the Mayor of the City of Wheat Ridge or his.designated repre-
sentative. The Mayor or his designated representative shall
assign to every habitable building its proper number. The
expense of such numbering shall be paid for by the owner or
occupant of the building.
Section 2. System of Numbering. In numbering the
buildings upon the streets of the City of Wheat Ridge, all even
numbers shall be on the South and-East sides of each street, or -
avenue, and all odd numbers shall be on the North and West
side of each street or avenue.
Section 3. Placing Number. It is the duty of the owner
or occupant of any building to place assigned numerals in a conspic-
uous position at the front of each building, and upon written
notice from the Mayor of the City of Wheat Ridge or his designated
representative, such numerals shall be so placed within thirty (30)
days after service of such written notice. Said notice may be
served by posting on the premises or by personal service, as defined
by the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure or may be made by registered
or certified mail, return receipt requested, :and service shall be
deemed complete upon delivery.
Section 4. Material of Numbers. All numbers shall be of
some metallic, glass, porcelain, or other durable material, or gilt
lettering'on the inside of a glass door, and shall be distinctly
legible.
Section 5. Unauthorized Numbers. _It shall be unlawful
for any owner or occupant of any building to use or permit to be
used upon any building any number other than the number assigned
by the Mayor of the City of Wheat Ridge or his designated repre-
sentative.
Section 6_ Naming of Streets. The City of Wheat Ridge
has the power to name or rename any of the streets or public
highways of the City and shall have the power to divide or sub-
divide any of the streets, public highways or public lands into
streets, roadways, gutters, sidewalks, and parks.
Section 7. Penalty Clause. Any person who violates
any provision of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a mis-
demeanor and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not
more than Three Hundred Dollars (8300.00) or Ninety (90) days in
jail, or both such fine and imprisonment. Every day in which a
violation of this Ordinance shall occur. shall constitute a sep-
arate violation of said Ordinance.

Section 8. Emergency Clause. The provisions of this
ordinance are necessary to the immediate preservation of the
public health and safety of the citizens of Wheat Ridge for the
following reasons:
1. No.street numbering and naming ordinances exist in
the City-because the City having just completed incorporation
August 20, 1969, has not heretofore adopted any ordinances
controlling street numbering and naming within the municipality.
2. Street numbering and naming ordinances are necessary
to preserve the public health and safety of the City of Wheat Ridge.
Section 9. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take
effect and be in force five (5) days after publication following
final passage providing it shall have been passed by an affirmative
vote of thre-fourths (3/4) of the members of the City Council,
otherwise, said ordinance shall take effect thirty (30) days
after publication following final passage.
